12 Years a Slave & Gravity win big at BAFTAs

Glitz and glamour hit the capital last night as the 2014 BAFTAs were handed out. In a strong year for competition Gravity and 12 Years a Slave took home the major honours on the night with the Sandra Bullock space-drama picking up ‘Best British Film’ and Steve McQueen’s masterpiece nabbing the coveted ‘Best Film’ accolade.

Captain Phillips, Philomena, The Great Gatsby and American Hustle also struck gold in a star-studded affair, once again masterfully handled by host Stephen Fry.

Elsewhere there were big wins for Cate Blanchet, Alfonso Cuaron and a Fellowship Award for Dame Helen Mirren. Will Poulter nabbed the public vote for the EE Rising Star Award.
