Secret Garden Party 2014 Saturday review

Having been to the Secret Garden Party before we knew that Saturday would be a big day in terms of partying. Being the fancy dress day of the weekend Saturday is always when the serious fun starts. Themed Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, SGP 2014 saw its fields fill up with all manner of strange characters, scarecrows, tinmen, lions and many more. It was a real treat to see everyone put in some effort.

During the day we decided to take a wonder and check out some of the music. We were delighted with Morcheeba’s set on the Great Stage. Instantly we were taken back into memory lane with the band’s soft and mellow tracks. The Sea sounded just as good live as it did on CD and Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day got everyone dancing and put smiles on the huge crowd that came to watch Morcheeba.  We also enjoyed a bit of Max Raabe & Palast Orchester, which added class into the festival with their eccentric set and felt perfect in the afternoon.

We also took some dance classes in the Village Hall and played with Tarantulas, pythons and chameleons.

Once the sun set it was time for us to get back to the main stage where we watched the famous fireworks. The area was packed and in good time we enjoyed a beautiful display of fireworks.

The fireworks were followed by the headliner of the night Public Enemy. Even though there was a bit too much talking between each song we enjoyed the old school hip-hop band. Fight The Power got everyone jumping about and pretty much any hit they played got people feeling nostalgic. We moved on to Where The Wild Things are to catch Gramatik, which we absolutely adored in this venue. With its blend of house and polka, Gramatik’s music seemed to blend in with the natural habitat we were in.

The rest of the night was spent exploring the garden even further and more and more surprises started to unveil as we discovered a sunflower garden behind a magic door then when we thought we’d discovered everything there is to discover we went ice-skating in the Christmas tent! We also had fun dancing with naturists nobody seemed phased about this, which made the whole night an absolute joy.

Its safe to say that day 2 at the Secret Garden Party was an absolute success and we can’t wait to find out what Sunday has on offer!
