We Are FSTVL was back in the fields of dreams aka Upminster’s aerodrome for its second year of successful partying. We were there to report on the happenings of the weekend, which filled us with happy memories.
Mother nature wasn’t kind to those that went to the festival on Saturday, indeed mud and downpours were on the cards and many shoes were ruined. Saturday was the sold out date of the festival though and even though the weather wasn’t great it didn’t spoil anyone’s moods. All kinds of people came from across the country and even across the globe, some wearing their most glamourous attire, other veterans were more relaxed and of course you had your festival virgins. We Are FSTVL’s lay out was pretty similar to last year’s except most of the site has expanded considerably and the stages lacked the imagination of last year’s. Small stages like secretsundaze got an upgrade and so did the VIP area, which saw hosts MK & Friends take over the stage for a day filled with special moments for those with special passes. In the VIP area if dancing was not what you craved then you were able to pamper yourself in the special pamper parlour or even take a dip in the Jacuzzis and you were able to enjoy porcelain toilets.
Outside the VIP area were 8 more stages dedicated to any type of dance music you might wish for. Hospital Records were all about the drum and bass beats with the likes of Shy FX and Stamina taking on the stage but also High Contrast, Camo & Krooked with Dynamite MC causing mayhem to all D&B fans. Defected in the House who proved to be a huge success last year were just as successful this year proving that when it comes to dancing the beats need to speak for themselves. Nick Curly was a big success and Oliver$ and Guti also managed to pack up the tent with avid dancers.
On The main stages We Are FSTVL and We Are Elctrnc all kinds of famous names graced the stages. Disclosure did an early set whilst the sun was still shining and Maya Janes Coles, who was brilliant on the decks, suitably impressed us. On We Are Elctrnc heavy weight names like Chuckie and Knife Party attracted huge crowds and on We Are FSTVL headliners Richie Hawtin and Matador closed the stages on a high with festivalgoers leaving with a smile on their faces.
The first day of the festival ended with fireworks and crazy light shows and everybody seemed to leave happy and content.
