Magic! are one of the hottest bands in the world right now thanks to the huge success of their debut single Rude.
The track, taken from their forthcoming album Don’t Kill The Magic!, is fighting with Cheryl for the number one spot on the UK singles chart this weekend. In the US, Rude has already topped the Billboard charts and it’s proved a hit right across the globe.
The band were in London recently and we caught up with lead singer Nasri Atweh to chat about the success of Rude, find out about the band’s album and more.
Hi guys, how are you? How is London treating you so far?
Weāre great thanks. So far so good weāve all visited London before Magic! existed and had great memories looking for to creating some as a band!
Youāre releasing your debut single Rude. Tell us about the track and the inspiration behind it.
The song was originally about an argument and not liking the way I was treated. So the lyrics āwhy you gotta be so rude?ā came out if it. The story line about the marriage proposal gone wrong came about 3 months later.
Rude has been a big hit in various places around the world already. How do you feel about the warm reception itās received?
You can only feel good when people love your song. If you don’t feel good change professions.
The single is taken from your forthcoming debut album Donāt Kill The Magic! What can your fans expect from the record?
Well the album is already out in the states. It came out July 1st! So far the fans love it and we can’t wait for you to hear it out here! You can expect good songs, we take pride in our song writing and really picky about what is goes on the album.
Give us a little insight into what youāre like in the studio. How do you go about putting a song together?
Thereās no calculation really. We just look for a great musical moment and run with it.
Youāve been together for a couple of years now. How did Magic! originally form?
Magic! was always an idea I had in the back of my head for the past 5 or 6 years. When I met Mark in my studio in LA I felt like I met the first piece of magic. From there we started getting guys together.
Youāve had a successful career behind the scenes as part of production team The Messengers. Whatās it been like for you to step into the limelight and showcase your own music?
Its fun. Too much fun. And good for my soul.
When can your UK fans catch you playing live?
As soon as we get invited! We canāt wait for the album to drop this summer and see you in the flesh.
What artists would you say have shaped the Magic! sound?
We started with The Police and then a lot of Bob Marley and the wailers and Stevie wonder and the Beatles and many many more!
What other plans do you have for 2014?
We plan to tour a lot in 2014 and spreading the album and making new friends.
