Jodie Marsh interview

Jodie Marsh isn’t someone you would normally call an investigative journalist, but with two brand new shows on TLC, Jodie has rightfully earned that title.

Tonight will see the first of two investigative shows, Jodie Marsh On…Steroids premiere on TLC. We were lucky enough to attend a preview screening two weeks ago, and we can honestly say you will regret it if you miss the show tonight! Jodie delves deeper into steroid taking than ever before. Jodie Marsh On…The Game will see the former glamour model take to the streets to talk to prostitutes, and get to the bottom of why this is happening. It’s both harrowing and emotional.

After the screening, we caught up with an excited Jodie for a chat. Here, she tells us about her two new shows, bodybuilding, and how to get a six pack!

How are you Jodie?

Really good, and really excited. I’ve been excited about this for weeks!

Tell us about your two new shows?

They are the best things we’ve ever done, I think. We are all, as a team, so proud of these shows, Jodie Marsh On…Steroids and The Game and they are things that haven’t been seen on TV before, certainly not in the way that we’re doing it. We are literally lifting the lid and explosively blowing apart everything within the two subjects, and we had such good access to such good people. I go to work with the prostitutes and sit in the back of the car when they are in a room shagging someone, and I think that kind of access has never been seen before, so it’s just amazing. I’m so proud of both shows.

What made you want to do a show about steroids?

Mainly it was because I was accused of being on steroids, repeatedly after I first competed, and I still get it now on Twitter. I thought, to be honest, if I get that many people saying ‘You’re on steroids’ it made me realize how uneducated people are about steroids. If you knew the first things about them, you’d know straightaway if someone was on steroids. You can look and tell. I thought we have to do a show about this, the whole nation is clueless when it comes to steroids, weight training, bodybuilding and fitness, and health even. We had to show people what it was all about, and that was my main motivation for doing steroids.

When you first started out bodybuilding, did you ever consider taking steroids?

No. Never. I knew all along some of the side effect they gave you, such as bad skin, spots, and I knew from that alone that I would never do them. I obviously work in TV and I do modelling and I can’t afford to have that side effect, let alone all the others that come with it. I have been offered steroids hundreds of times, in gyms and backstage at competitions, so it’s been pushed in my face quite a lot.

What made you triggered you do start bodybuilding?

I’d been training for quite a long time and my body adapted quite quickly to the training, and I really loved how my body looked. The harder and more muscle I got, I really loved it. I had loads of friends who were bodybuilders, and one girl in particular who competed, and I watched her up on stage and she had a six-pack, and I thought ‘Oh my god, your body looks amazing!’ and I literally fell in love with how she looked on stage and it was watching her compete that made me want to do it. When I saw her on stage with her six-pack, I just thought ‘I want that’ and ‘I want the perfect body’ and then that was it. From that day on I knew I was going to compete.

How do you get a six pack??

You can’t answer quickly! Ha ha! Lots and lots of crunches, lots of abs exercises, eating the right food, and having a good diet. Lots of protein and no carbs. Drinking lots of water, cutting out all the sugar, dairy and wheat, no processed foods!

And you enjoy going to the gym now?

I love it! I’m having a gym built in my home at the moment, and it’s my big thing! I spend half my life in the gym, and having a gym at home has always been one of my dreams, and finally – I’ve done it and got one, and I just can not wait! I’m so excited!

Do you think the public will change their minds about you as an investigative journalist after seeing these two shows?

Hopefully, yeah! I don’t want to sit here and blow my own trumpet, but I am good at talking to people and I am good at getting them to open up to me and tell me stuff. I do care about all of the subjects in the shows, and there is not one there that I wasn’t trying to screw over or try make them look bad. I think the contributors know that from when they meet me. You can always sense when someone is trying to stab you in the back, and they just know I wasn’t doing that, I was there because I was genuinely was interested in what they had to say! I think I do make a good investigative journalist because I am very down to earth and very normal and I can just sit and talk to people and get them to tell me their story.

Jodie Marsh On…Steroids will air tonight on TLC at 10pm.
