If you’re not up to date with Elementary and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

The episode opened up with Watson waking Sherlock from a session in his new antique sensory deprivation tank. After his rest he felt better and had managed to stave off an impending headache. Watson noticed the photos of the missing girl that Michael had asked him to find. Sherlock explained the girl was a heroine addict who often went missing. Watson said it would be nice to meet Michael and Sherlock said she could next time they met up.

Sherlock and Watson were needed on a police murder case. A female therapist called Dr. Candice Reed had been murdered at her office. She had been stabbed over 50 times and there was blood everywhere. Watson realised that the woman had been her therapist in the past. Sherlock suggested she didn’t need to work on the case but she said she’d be ok.

Watson and Detective Bell (Jon Michael Hill) met with Reed’s husband. He was understandably devastated to hear of his wife’s murder. At the time of his wife’s murder he was at his sister’s house. Before they left he told the police that one of her patients had an unhealthy obsession with her. He didn’t know the patients name but knew when their regular appointment was.

Back at the Brownstone, Watson found Sherlock somehow had all of Reed’s patient files. He’d managed to steal a portable hard drive from her office and printed them all out. Out of privacy he had not looked at Watson’s file. Looking through the others they discovered the name of the patient obsessed with the doctor. They went to visit him at his office and he seemed very upset at the news. While Sherlock was telling Watson the man was putting on an act, the man jumped from his office balcony.

The man survived and Sherlock later visited him in hospital. He told the man he believed he didn’t kill his therapist before he jumped. The man explained he was at a meeting the night of the murder. It was covered by an NDA so he couldn’t talk about it. He suggested Sherlock talk to his boss who was due to arrive. Sherlock did so and discovered the boss rented the office to the doctor. He pointed Sherlock at her partner as a possible suspect.

Back at Reed’s building, Sherlock and Watson spoke to her partner but he was very uncooperative. After he left, Watson went to Reed’s office to return the hard drive. Sherlock turned the lights off and noticed a small light in the ceiling. There was a listening device in the light so he took it with them.

Back home, Watson took a call to confirm that Reed’s partner had an alibi. Sherlock examined the device and concluded it had been there for months. He also proposed it was owned by the murderer. They wondered if it was her landlord who did it.

They paid him a visit to accuse him of the murder, which he denied. He also said the listening device wasn’t his. When they pushed him some more he made a threat knowing they had stolen the hard drive. Sherlock called his bluff and said that they had a lot less to lose that he. He agreed to get them a recording of Reed’s murder if they kept his billion dollar firm out of it.

While Sherlock was having another session in his sensory deprivation tank, he was paid a visit by the landlord’s fixer. He explained that the recording had been destroyed as it had no useful information. Sherlock asked if there was anything on there at all and he replied with some strange words that he didn’t feel meant anything. Sherlock knew them and said he knew who the killer was. He also revealed he had a recording of what the fixer said and threatened to kill him if he didn’t leave.

Sherlock and Bell paid a visit to the man in hospital again. Reed’s partner was there and Sherlock made him leave. They pretended to accuse the man of the murder while the partner watched from outside. They had worked out that he was telling Reed inside information on his company. The felt Reed’s partner was listening in on the conversation to get the info and knew he would now lead them to the murder weapon.

Elsewhere in the episode, Watson’s sister Lin came to visit her. Watson told her about the death of her therapist. She also told Lin that she read the file Reed kept on her. Reed had made a note that Watson would have made a good mother and it made her think. Lin later told to ignore the file.

At the end of the episode, Bell went to see Sherlock to tell him they got Reed’s partner. Sherlock wasn’t available so he spoke to Watson. After he left she finished a phone call to an adoption agency.
