Elementary 5×11 Be My Guest preview

On the latest episode of Elementary, Watson (Lucy Liu) found herself the victim of identity fraud.

Detective Bell called her to the morgue to take a look at the body of a man that had been found dead. Bell was hoping that Watson would recognise the man as he’d died of an opiate overdose from a prescription in her name.

However, Watson had never seen the man before or written any prescriptions recently. Despite keeping her license updated, she hadn’t practiced medicine for 10 years.

After some investigation she discovered which hospital her information had been stolen from. She also determined that the same had happened to several other doctors. The evidence led to one particular doctor who was responsible but upon visiting her she was found to be murdered along with the mother of a patient. Boxes of blank prescription pads had also been taken.

The ballistics pointed to a guy who had been shot years earlier. Upon interviewing him, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) realised he was lying about how he had been shot. When pushed he admitted to an attempted car jacking.

It turned out that the car belonged to the husband of the woman who was shot. It seemed he might be responsible before they worked out that it was infact his ill son. His illness had been a mystery to many doctors but Watson realised that his mother had been poisoning him causing his debilitating symptoms.

Elsewhere in the episode, Shinwell (Nelsan Ellis) tried to thank Sherlock by restoring an old chess table he’d found in the brownstone’s basement. Shinwell had done a good job but Sherlock wasn’t particularly happy as it was evidence from a 78 year old unsolved murder.

Throughout the episode Sherlock continued to study the case. He even bought the necessary equipment to return the chess table back to how it was before Shinwell restored it. In the end he decided against it and left it how it was.

At the end of the episode, Sherlock went to see Shinwell and took the chess table with him. He told Shinwell that he couldn’t stop him choosing to be an informant and offered to train him. In return Sherlock wanted Shinwell to also help he and Watson when required. The chess table he offered on an indefinite loan as something they could use to spend time together. The episode closed as they sat down to play.

The next episode is Be My Guest. Holmes and Watson race to find a woman who’s been held captive for years before the kidnapper takes drastic steps to avoid being caught. Also, Watson becomes frustrated when Shinwell refuses to focus on his informant training with her and Holmes.
