True Blood Drinks & Bites review

True Blood fever is rife once again as the show is currently back on air for its seventh and final season. Despite having a rocky few years, the show is finally back on form and looks set to go out with a bang. As we prepare to say goodbye to Bon Temps and its residents, an accompanying recipe book True Blood Drinks & Bites has been re-released.

The small hardback book is packed with photos from the series and contains a mixture of cocktail and canapƩ recipes that are sure to go down a treat at your next dinner party. Each recipe has a True Blood-style name and is accompanied mouth-watering photographs that are sure to get your tastebuds going.

The first half of the book is dedicated to cocktail recipes, which letā€™s face it are the most important part of any dinner party right? The book opens with Glamourade and a whole host of cocktails for those who donā€™t drink before moving onto creative creations such as Screwed Driver and Faerie Blood. There are lots of colourful and interesting combinations to explore and we love the names that tie them into the show such as True Death and Maenad a Trois.

The second half of the book offers ideas for a selection of nibbles to be served alongside the cocktails. From Raginā€™ Cajun Popcorn through to Cheese Stakes and the amazing named Frigginā€™ Pigs in a Blanket, there are some really interesting recipes. We particularly liked the Scorn Fritters and Mini-Mortal Spicy Corn and Cheddar Muffins which are absolutely delicious.

The book ends with two deserts: Dead Red Cupcakes and Pecan Pie Bars of Wisdom. Weā€™re a sucker for Red Velvet so the Dead Red Cupcakes do it for us and they look beautiful if you follow the fantastic recipe in this book.

Our only complaint is that we wish the book extended to some of the main dishes you regularly see served in Merlottes (now Bellefleurs on the show). The tasty meat-based dishes are touched upon with recipes such as Terry Bā€™s Mini Burgers but we would have liked to see some more substantial Southern cuisine recipes detailed in the book.

Overall True Blood Drinks & Bites is sure to add bite to any dinner party. The cocktail recipes are the strongest aspect of the book and who doesnā€™t love a good array of cocktails at a party? We say grab yourself a copy of the book and host your own True Blood party to say goodbye to the series. We can guarantee youā€™ll make your fellow True Blood friends very happy.
