Stranger Things is a phenomenon. After only one series, the Netflix Original series became a global sensation thanks to its incredible young cast and an edge-of-the-seat plot. Last month the show returned for a second season, which has been devoured by fans, with many watching all of the episodes over the course of a day. Both a tribute to the 80s and a genuinely scary series, Stranger Things has quickly established itself as a cultural phenomenon. Guy Adams has put together Notes From the Upside Down: Inside the World of Stranger Things, an unofficial guide to the most buzzed about show of the past few years.

Notes From the Upside Down is a companion for the first season of the show. It’s not a straightforward episode guide as such but it does recount the key moments from the season while packing in plenty of facts that you probably didn’t know. The first section gives in-depth background on the show and how it came to be before delving into the first season.

Adams digs into the episodes providing a summary of what takes place along with information about the music played and the nods to things from the 80s such as E.T. and The Twilight.

The book does find moments to have a little fun. One section tells you how to dress up as your favourite Stranger Things character and at the end of each section there are quiz questions so you can test your knowledge about the show.

There are appendices at the back that give you more information on the main actors in the show as well as information about the show’s soundtrack and an 80s movie playlist.

Notes From the Upside Down would be the perfect gift for any fan of the show. There’s a lot of information packed in to the book and lots of little facts that hardcore fans will love. If you’re a casual fan of the show then this will probably be more information than you’ll want but it’s a thoroughly researched book by someone who clearly loves the show as much as most of its fanbase does.
