Blindspot 2×17 Solos preview

Blindspot finally returned last night after a 5-week break.

The episode opened up where the previous one finished. After collecting her dead drop, Nas (Archie Panjabi), was attacked in her car. Fortunately she managed to overpower her attacker and shoot him before escaping.

Meanwhile Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and the team were having a drunken get-together. As Jane (Jaimie Alexander) arrived to join in the fun, Patterson (Ashley Johnson) tried to convince everyone that it was good luck to toast each shot. The party was cut short when a call came in to say Nas had been attacked.

Back at the FBI, apparently all now sober, Nas handed over the USB drive that she obtained. Of course it’s super encrypted but that’s just a night’s work for Patterson to crack.

The cracked USB drive provided login credentials for an FTP site. Accessing it triggered an alert to Nas’s Sandstorm source who immediately got in touch. Using a voice scrambler he requested $500,000 in exchange for the location of Shepherd. To prove he wasn’t bluffing he provided a video of Borden (Ukweli Roach).

The team decided to go ahead with the meet in order to try and trap the Sandstorm source. The money was to be dropped in a laundry basket on the fifth floor of the hospital. The team were all there waiting and pounced on a porter who dropped the bag into a laundry chute.

He explained that he was offered some money to drop the bag. With no time to waste, Jane flung herself down the chute after the bag and gave chase. She found herself in a fight with the Sandstorm source who turned out to be Cade (Tom Lipinski).

The team interrogated Cade back at the FBI. He explained how he joined Sandstorm but decided to leak info to Nas after realising they were terrorists. He wanted the money and freedom in exchange for giving up Shepherd’s location. With no other option, Weller agreed to the deal and got ready to intercept her.

The team arrived on the scene early but found that Shepherd was ahead of them as usual. The man she was meeting was dead and she was long gone. Weller flipped at Cade but realised he couldn’t have been the one to tip her off.

Patterson suddenly had a flashback to when Shepherd tortured her. She realised that a bug had been planted inside one of her teeth, allowing Sandstorm to listen in on what was happening at the FBI.

Patterson used a tablet computer to silently tell Weller what had happened. They decided to use the bug to their advantage and put together a script for the team to read. They pretended that capturing Cade had allowed Roman (Luke Mitchell) to recover memories. They also spoke of a location to transfer Cade.

Borden overheard the conversation and didn’t suspect it was a trap. He and an armed team went to capture Cade. The plan partially worked before Borden realised something was wrong. He fled while his soldiers were cornered. Before they could capture them one of the soldiers executed his fellow soldiers and turned the gun on himself.

While that was going on, Patterson pursued Borden on her own. She managed to shoot him but he escaped into a barn. Against the orders of Weller, she went after him and shot him again. She tried to get him to turn himself in but he blew himself up with a grenade after apologising to Patterson.

Elsewhere in the episode, Tasha (Audrey Esparza) and Reade (Rob Brown) were randomly picked for a drugs test. That was no problem for Tasha but Reade tried to dodge out of it due to his recent binge.

Fortunately for Reade, the drugs were out of his system so he passed the test. Tasha tried to get him to talk with Weller but he said there was no need. She gave him an ultimatum that if he didn’t she would because she was his friend. When Reade failed to talk to Weller, Tasha called him instead asking to speak.

At the end of the episode, Jane and Oliver made up over a candlelit dinner. It didn’t last long though as masked men burst in and shot them with tranqilizer darts.

The next episode is Solos and here’s the official synopsis:

Jane and Oliver find themselves in a dangerous situation that exposes the secrets they’ve both been keeping from each other.
