Sons of Anarchy – Season 7 Blu-ray review

Sons of Anarchy bowed out in December after 7 critically acclaimed seasons. The show told the story of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (SAMCRO) and their families in Charming, California. Over its run the show attracted controversy for its violence and graphic sex scenes, but it found a loyal audience who made it one of the most talked about shows in recent years. The seventh and final season of the series has just been released on Blu-ray and DVD giving you a chance to either relive all of the magic or to wave goodbye.

Season 7 picks up 2 weeks after the death of Jaxā€™s (Charlie Hunnam) wife Tara (Maggie Siff) at the hands of his mother Gemma (Katey Sagal). With Jax in prison, he starts to plot his revenge unaware that it was his own mother who killed his wife. With Gemma feeding Jax false information to try and keep suspicion off herself, the body count begins to rise as Jax sets out to get vengeance.

Sons of Anarchy does what it does best in season 7. It serves up plenty of plot twists, a fairly high body count and plenty of sex and violence. The world in which Jax inhabits is turned upside down as he searches for his wifeā€™s killer. All the while he still has to deal with being a father and trying to understand who is an ally and who is an enemy. Due to misleading information from Gemma, Jax ignites a war with the Chinese that drags SAMCRO right into the middle. Will he find out that it was his mother before itā€™s too late? Youā€™ll have to watch the season to find out.

Season 7 is packed with special guest stars such as musicians Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson, Michael Chiklis (The Shield), Robert Patrick (The X-Files), Peter Weller (24), Annabeth Gish (The X-Files), and Kim Dickens (House of Cards). Keep your eyes peeled for small roles from Lea Michele (Glee) and Charisma Carpenter (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) too.

Special features on the release include deleted scenes, a gag reel and five featurettes taking you behind the scenes of the show. One of the most interesting is Motorcycles of Mayhem: Bikes of Sons of Anarchy which focuses on the two-wheeled vehicles that are so prominent in the show.

Sons of Anarchy Season 7 is a satisfying conclusion to the long-running show and one that pleased critics and fans alike. The show was bold and ambitious and it will go on to enjoy longevity alongside classic series such as The Sopranos and The Wire. If youā€™ve never seen Sons of Anarchy, now is the time to pick up all 7 seasons and get ready to binge-watch them. Once the show gets its hooks into you, itā€™ll be your new favourite thing to watch.
