Family Guy continues to pull a decent audience after all these years. The controversial animated comedy from Seth MacFarlane is well-known for not holding back when it comes to voicing its opinions, taking on topical subjects and poking fun at some of the biggest stars in the world. In the UK Season Seventeen (which is Season Fifteen in the US) has recently been released and it features all 20 episodes from the latest hilarious season.
Opening with The Boys in the Band, Season Seventeen gets off to a very strong start when Stewie and Brian decide to form their own band. Of course with it being Family Guy, the duo has an edge despite performing childrenās songs. Elsewhere in the episode Chris gets a new job when he starts working as Quagmireās personal assistant for his sex life.
Over the course of the season the Griffin family get up to all kinds of weird and wacky things. Chris starts to display anger issues and channels them into a baseball career (Bookie of the Year), Peter and Lois get involved in the anti-vaccination movement in a misguided bid to protect Stewie (Hot Shots) and Peter gets a job as a mall Santa, which of course turns out terribly (How the Griffin Stole Christmas).
One of the best moments in the season is Dearly Deported, which takes on a very real issue in America since Donald Trump became President. Chrisās Mexican girlfriend Isabella is deported so he enlists the help of his parents to bring her back to the US, while taking care of her twins. Itās an example of when Family Guy gets its comedy spot on and itās a very funny episode.
Special features on the boxset include deleted scenes and tributes to Carrie Fisher and Adam West, both of whom have played pivotal roles in the series.
Family Guy Season Seventeen continues to bring hilarious adventures from the Griffin family. If youāve always been a fan of the show, youāll absolutely love it. If you havenāt youāll still probably want to steer clear. Iāve been a big fan for years and contrary to what some critics say, I think Family Guy is as razor sharp and relevant today as it always has been. Long may it continue!
