The X Factor 2014 week 4 live show recap

The X Factor 2014 continued tonight with news of the double elimination hanging over the heads of all the remaining acts.

Tonight it was Fright Night on the show with the 11 remaining acts performing spooky songs and getting into the spirit of the season. Last weekend we said goodbye to Jake Quickenden who left the competition after losing the sing-off to Only The Young.

Who put on a horror show and who impressed? Find out by reading our verdict on the acts below.

Ben Haenow

The song: Highway To Hell

Our verdict: Ben Haenow gave a good rendition of Highway To Hell and certainly looked like he was enjoying himself. We enjoyed the energy that Ben brought to the stage. As the opening act of the night Ben really did pave the way to a great night.

The comments: Ben got praise from all the judges, Louis loved the performance as did Mel B and Cheryl encouraged the show viewers to vote for Ben. Mentor Simon showed his support and pride presenting one of the competitions favourites.

Lola Saunders

The song: Crazy

Our verdict: Lola Saunders kicked off her rendition of Crazy in a seductive way and the dancers helped make the performance a little creepy with their scary masks. Lola looked like she enjoyed herself on stage but part of her performance lacked for us with a few missed notes. We didn’t feel grabbed by her performance.

The comments: Louis and Mel B agreed again that Lola impressed and Simon said that it was by far her best performance of the competition. Cheryl noticed Lola lost her earpiece and therefore couldn’t hear herself, which would have impacted on her rendition of the song.

Fleur East

The song: Thriller

Our verdict: Fleur comes on stage each week giving her best however it’s always a bit hit and miss. Unfortunately for Fleur this week she came on stage and murdered Thriller, her vocals weren’t great but we did enjoy the dance moves. To us it was shambles.

The comments: Louis was in a good mood and complimented Fleur but Mel B like us agreed that her dance moves were better than her vocals. Cheryl was full of compliments and support. Simon encouraged Fleur’s supporters to vote for her as he believes its her time to shine.

Jack Walton

The song: Bleeding Love

Our verdict: Jack Walton decided to sing the track that catapulted Leona Lewis into stardom following her X Factor win and Jack for once without guitar focused only on his vocals. We were a bit put off by his random choice of outfit, which distracted from his performance a little. Bleeding Love sounded a little desperate and like the type of song a stalker would sing to you. To us it was  a dull performance.

The comments: Louis thought the performance lacked and missed Jack’s guitar. Cheryl also seemed to think that Jack was nervous and didn’t give his best. Simon also agreed that Jack was the worst dressed of the evening but that he deserved a place in the music industry. Mel B as the mentor was ever so supportive.

Jay James

The song: Mad World

Our verdict: Jay James has a great voice and we’ve always been supportive of his music. His rendition of Mad World was packed with energy and we couldn’t keep our eyes off him. To us Jay James’ experience is obvious.

The comments: Mel B thought the performance was spot on this week. Cheryl and Simon continued their weekly cat fights and this week it was over Jay James with Cheryl not being sold on his rendition of the song. Simon as Jay’s mentor was full of constructive advice.

Andrea Faustini

The song: Relight My Fire

Our verdict: Andrea Faustini came onto the stage as a golden devil and looked ever so the part singing Take That’s Relight My Fire. Relight My Fire is a fun track and it didn’t seem to be the best song to show off Andrea’s amazing voice. The Italian contenstant did a great job though at proving us wrong and belted out some impressive notes. The song ended and we were still undecided about our feelings.

The comments: Cheryl seemed to think like us that the song was not ambitious enough. Simon had a laughing fit and couldn’t put his feelings into words. Mel B obviously was full of praise for her star pupil.

Lauren Platt

The song: Dark Horse

Our verdict: Lauren Platt is easily one of the best singers of the competition and we were excited to see her sing one of our favourite songs of 2014. Even though we love the song and Lauren we didn’t think Dark Horse was the right track for her and the dance moves didn’t convince us either. Unfortunately we weren’t blown away.

The comments: Mel B thought Lauren owned the track and Simon thought Cheryl did a great track choice. Simon did point out that the vocals were a little bit pitchy but he still thought there was a future star standing on the stage in front of him.

Paul Akister

The song: Bat Out of Hell

Our verdict: Paul Akister was a lot of fun to watch and his vocals were spot on to us. We loved the vibrating performance and his assurance. We thought that this was one of the best performances of the night.

The comments: Cheryl was very impressed by the performance and how versatile the young singer proved to be. Simon was not sold. Mel B was very much behind her act and was very proud.

Only The Young

The song: The Monster Mash

Our verdict: The Young Ones brought fun to the party with their cool version of The Monster Mash. We loved the band’s showmanship and how much fun they seemed to have during their performance. They vocals were not always perfect but the band did impress with its style and are still very infectious.

The comments: Mel B and Cheryl were very impressed by the guys this week. Simon was also full of praise and all smiles when talking to them.

Stereo Kicks

The song: Everybody

Our verdict: What person growing up in the nineties didn’t hear about The Backstreet Boys? No one is the answer and it was a great song choice for the 8 piece band that is Stereo Kicks. The boys were very much enjoying their performance of the nineties pop classic. The vocals certainly did the trick for us.

The comments: Mel B and Cheryl yet again agreed that it was a great performance. Simon who put the band together was very impressed and paying the band many compliments. Louis as the band’s mentor was very much vouching for the boys and how talented they have become.

Stevi Ritchie

The song: Music of the Night

Our verdict: Stevi Ritchie looked unrecognisable with a sparkly mask and clean shaven. He ended the night with a great performance and we felt  like we were on Broadway. By far this was Stevi’s best performance and for once we didn’t doubt his place in the competition.

The comments: Louis enjoyed the song however Mel B on the other hand seemed to mock singer and the song choice. Cheryl thought Stevi sang the song really well. Simon praised his protégé.

The X Factor 2014 continues at 8pm tomorrow night on ITV as another act will leave the competition.
