The X Factor 2014 top 5 week 6 performances

Big Band night arrived on The X Factor 2014 last night and it’s always one of the most fun weeks of the series.

Whilst the acts and their mentors may have applied the theme very loosely, it was still an entertaining show that served up the usual mixed bag of performances. With only 8 acts left in the competition we’re heading into the final few weeks of the competition and in our eyes there is already a clear winner.

We rewatched all of last night’s performances and we’ve selected our Top 5. Keep reading to see if you agree…

5. Andrea Faustini – Summertime

Even though we liked this performance we have to agree with Simon Cowell. Andrea’s tendency to over-sing and pull faces puts us off him and he’s yet to show any kind of real versatility. He’s a fantastic vocalist but as it stands at the moment we wouldn’t want to listen to a whole album from him.

4. Stereo Kicks – Mack The Knife

Credit to Stereo Kicks who had their song changed 24 hours before they were due to perform. They pulled it together impressively we thought and for the most part their vocals were on point. We’re not sure the public is fully behind them yet but they’re definitely starting to show real potential.

3. Only The Young – I Wanna Be Like You

We’re as shocked as you are that Only The Young have made our Top 5 for the first time this series. Last night the decision to put the girls in the background and let Charlie take the lead vocals worked really well. They embraced the theme, had fun and put on a great performance.

2. Ben Haenow – Cry Me A River

Honestly we think Mel B and Cheryl need their ears cleaning out. Ben was far and away the best vocal of the night last night. He did his best with a theme that didn’t really suit him and we liked that he put his own twist on and kept his distinctive vocals at the fore.

1. Fleur East – Bang Bang

We say it every single week – thank goodness for Fleur East! Whilst the song may have been loosely embracing the theme, the performance was a clear home run. Plenty of dancing, great vocals and a twist on the popular song made Fleur last night’s clear winner.

The X Factor 2014 continues tonight at 8pm on ITV. Tune in to find out who will be going home.
