The X Factor 2014 top 5 week 5 performances

We’ve said it a few times this series but the standard of talent on this year’s X Factor is pretty mediocre.

Last night’s week 5 live show saw the hopefuls tackle the Queen Vs Michael Jackson theme and is was a real, real mixed bag. It was so mixed in fact that picking five decent performances was actually really tough this week.

Keep reading to find out who made the cut and see if you agree with our selections.

5. Lauren Platt – I’ll Be There

The judges all said Lauren gave a stunning performance last night. We don’t think that she did but she did up her game in the song’s second half. She’s a good singer but this song was a little bit too big for her we thought.

4. Stereo Kicks – You Are Not Alone

The 8-piece boyband sang through idiot ‘comedian’ Lee Nelson invading the stage during their performance and delivered their best performance yet. The band is starting to click and judging from the screams in the audience the girls love them.

3. Andrea Faustini – Somebody To Love

Andrea can sing. Yes we all know this. His performance of Somebody To Love was vocally great but he was a little bit dull. He really needs to showcase some versatility because at the moment he has one-trick-pony written all over him.

2. Ben Haenow – Man In The Mirror

Ben was told by Mel B that it was a mistake to sing without music at the start of the song. We think she needs her ears cleaned out to be honest. Ben delivered a solid and heartfelt vocal and was easily one of the evening’s stand out performances.

1. Fleur East – Will You Be There

We say it every single week – thank goodness Fleur East is in the competition. Every time the judges (well Mel B really) criticise her, Fleur comes back fighting and shuts them up. Last night she allowed her voice to speak for itself as she sang her heart out and stole the show.

The X Factor 2014 continues tonight at 8pm on ITV. Tune in to find out which act will leave the competition.
