The X Factor: Week 2 recap

It’s week two of the brand new X Factor, and we here at EF have been so excited since the closing titles of last week’s first show! What will this edition bring us?

Last week saw the weird and the wonderful audition to try and join the X Factor Hall Of Fame, and join the likes of Leona Lewis, One Direction, Olly Murs and Little Mix as the show’s success story, will we see the new Harry Styles tonight?

The X Factor started tonight with auditions at the O2 Arena in London. The guest judge was pop sensation Rita Ora, who told us: “I just want to discover someone who is confident because thats what makes someone a star in my eyes.”

The first on to audition was 23 year old Rylan Clark from Essex. He told of his love for tanning and making himself beautiful. He said: “All my money goes on making me look good.” Walking on to the stage to a rapturous applause form the audience, Rita picked up on his hair straightaway. He charmed Gary Barlow with his comments on this blazer. Rylan sang Kissing You by Romeo and Juliet, and despite his comedic personality, he had potential in his voice. Starting off with a slow version, he then picked it up a notch and shouted “Come on, lets have it Ibiza style!” Tulisa looked as if she loved it! Rita said: “You’re really really fun, I want to see what else you got!” Gary told him: “Love your personality, but hate your voice. Strange song choice too.” Tulisa said: “I loved the fact you brought a bit of Ibiza to us.” Louis Walsh said: “I’m a bit worried…” All judges apart from Gary gave Rylan a Yes! Go Rylan!!

Next up on The X Factor stage was 29 year old chimney sweeper Kye from Middlesex. He applied for the show because singing is what he wants to do full-time. Walking on to the stage, he looked the part. His song choice was Swedish House Mafia’s Save The World. His voice was full of passion, and his falsetto hit the right part. Kye had the audience in the palm of his hands and received a standing ovation from all four judges. EF felt very teary. Gary said: “I think the greatest thing with you is that we’ve not only found a great singer, we’ve also found an artist. This is extremely exciting.” Louis said: “You were born to sing, not to clean chimneys!” Tulisa said: “I could listen to you sing all day long.” Rita said: “Oh my gosh, you made RIP sound so cool man!” Kye got through!

We were then in Manchester, and with a new city came a new guest judge, Spice Girl Mel B. Viewers saw Mel being very harsh last week, but EF secretly loved it! Will she continue with her acid tongue this week?

The first on stage in Manchester was twenty year old Lucy from Sheffield. She said; “I’ve always written my own music. I’ve been gigging for years to try and get somewhere in the music industry.” Her song was her own composition, called Last Night. She played it with her guitar, and had the audience laughing along to the lyrics. Lucy certainly has talent in songwriting! Lyrics such as “Last night I called you a loser, maybe that was after a flaming sambuca!” Go Lucy!! EF wants to buy this song!! She received a rapturous applause from every single person in that Arena! Tulisa said: “You have got me! That song there is straight on my iPod!” Louis said: “That song could be a number one record! Very few people get that reaction.” Gary said; “I loved your song” Mel B also loved it: “You don’t know how great you are! You’re brilliant!” Then, the audience started chanting “We want more!” Lucy received four Yes’!

It was then the turn of Newcastle to show us what they had! The judge was Nicole, who is now a permanent judge. 41 year old Billy Moore was the first we saw on stage, and he said: “Earliest memories is singing along to Boney M!” His song was Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’. When the backing track started, he missed his que and said: “I’m murdering it!” He couldn’t sing with the track, and so the audience joined in with him. He had to stop and said: “That was awful, this was a bad idea.” Gary said: “I have to agree.” Louis said: “It just didn’t work.” Billy was very gracious with the rejection and said: “That was an absolute disaster!”

Next was Alex Saccone, who Gary commented and said: “There was a couple of notes there that didn’t exist in the original.” We also saw Haus of Dann, dressed as a tiger. Nicole said: “You have your own vision, in your head.” Naroop Singh murdered his song, whilst Davy J Chappell left Nicole without any words with Living On A Prayer.

After a series of disaster auditions, we then saw Sophie from Hartlepool. She said: “This is very important to me.” Her Mum said: “She is amazing. Fantastic. I can not wait for you to hear her.” Her song was Jennifer Hudsons Love You I Do. After being bigged up by her whole family, we were expecting something special, but that wasn’t what we got. It sounded like a cat being strangled. Nicole said: “You’re a beautiful girl, you have power and projection, but we were missing the pitch and the tone. You need all of those things.” Gary said: “I want to be encouraging, but it was vocally very bad.” She received four No’s.

Will there be any talent in Newcastle? We saw 24 year old James Arthur from Middlesborough. He said of his difficulty growing up after his parent’s divorce, and his time in foster care. He said: “Initially music was a coping mechanism.” His audition was the first time his parents had been in the same room since splitting up years ago. We had high hopes for James. His song was his own, acoustic version of Tulisa’s Young. He captured the audience’s hearts straight from the off, and Tulisa looked very emotional. Not only did he have a gorgeous voice, but he rapped as well which worked perfectly well. EF felt very emotional whilst watching him on that stage. All four judges jumped on to their feet to applaud him, and his parents were crying backstage.Tulisa said: “James, when you’re up there I see you get lost in that world, and its just you with your guitar. Best audition of the day.” Gary said: “We’ve seen lots of people, 99% of those people we want to change a little, but if anyone dares to touch and change what you did…you should be proud of what you did today.” Louis said: “From today onwards, your life is going to change.” Nicole also loved him: “You inspired me. You bared your soul to us.” James flew threw to the second round. EF can’t wait to see more of James.

So, that’s the second week over and done with. James Arthur and Lucy were sensational tonight and we can not wait to see what the second round will have in store for both of them.
