With the surprise departure of Carolynne Poole last week we return this week to see what shocks and drama we have in store this week on The X Factor.
First up is Jahemene singing Amy Winehouse’s Tears Dry On Their Own blended with Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t no Mountain High Enough. It was a stunning and confident opener to the show. His awkwardness is steadily shifting and being replaced by a coolness. He’s one of Louis’ favourites; Tulisa branded him amazing and Barlow was in agreement. Nicole said he ‘took it’.
Nervously challenged Chris Maloney was up next. With Nan in the audience cheering him on, the Orange-One sangHeart’s Alone – a class power ballad. Unfortunately he didn’t nail it – he was off key. The burger never really arrived with the cheese! Nicole praised the song choice, Louis called it a lazy song choice. Tulisa said he had one of the strongest voices in the competition but said that he didn’t feel current to her. They seemed more impressed than we did.
Louis’s Union J took to the stage next to try and redeem themselves.  They sang Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Loveblended with James Morrison’s Broken Strings. We loved their performance – it was inspired with a good beat and lovely harmonies. Tulisa said it was much better than last week, Gary said it was a total transformation, Nicole said that they’d got everything right this week. Louis said they brought the excitement.
Ella Henderson was up next singing Loving You by Minnie Ripperton. Needless to say the girl didn’t disappoint and even managed to hit the high F sharp with perfection. Nicole called her timeless and classic. Louis said she was a world wide recording artist. Tulisa said Ella’s stage presence was far beyond her years.
James Arthur was up next representing the boys. He was singing Mary J. Blige’s No More Drama.  We thought it was average. Louis disagreed and called it amazing. Tulisa was called him her favourite boy in the contest. Gary called it a fantastic performance.
Next up was Lucy Spraggan. The poor love has had a tough week with her nan passing away. She sang Kanye West’s Gold Digger. It was brilliant!  We loved her version of the rap. She was fab! Gary loved her cover, Nicole said she swagged it out and made it her own. Louis was also in praise of her.
The next group were District3. They were singing All 4 One’s I Swear. Tulisa said their harmonies were there strong point and appreciated the song choice. Gary thought the harmonies were off and Nicole disagreed with Gary, although she admitted the last note was off. She wants them to shake things up a bit. Louis said it was a faultless performance and that Gary had gone deaf.
The last of the girls, Jade Ellis, took to the stage. She gave a haunting rendition of Amy Winehouse’s Love Is A Losing Game. Gary said it was an amazing and stylish performance; Nicole compared her to a rare and exotic flower. Louis said he thought she was incredible.
Last of the groups, MK1, got on stage. Singing The Jackson 5’s ABC they had fun strutting their stuff on stage. It was fun and energetic, although not the strongest performance. Nicole didn’t enjoy it and Barlow and Tulisa gave them mediocre reviews.
Kye took to the stage. He started off on a bum note singing Rihanna’s Love the Way You Lie that turned into Dido’sThank You. Nicole loved the song choice but not the performance. Louis said he was bored.
Last week’s drama factor, Rylan, was up next. Starting off with Back For Good (just for Gary) then Groove Is In The Heart, then Gangnam Style then back to Groove Is In The Heart – it was a campfest – oopa Rylan Style! Entertainment in abundance – fun, fun, fun! Louis and Tulisa loved it, Gary said it was a contest to see how many songs he could kill in two minutes! Drama-rama!
Melanie Masson was the last contender. Singing Never Tear Us Apart (made famous by the John Lewis advert) she belted her way pitch perfectly. Nicole said the performance showed everything. Louis gushed his praise as did Tulisa. We loved her!
