The Voice UK week 7 recap

Tonight is the last of the blind auditions and so the final chance for the coaches to fill their teams with 12 acts so they are bound to agonise over hitting their buttons now more than ever. Ricky, Tom and Will have 2 spaces to fill and Kylie just 1.

First up is ambulance controller Tom. Tom says he is used to dealing with stress on a daily basis so  he should be able to hold it together on stage and wow the coaches. Tom sings ‘American Boy’ and Kylie and Will seem interested. Will is the first to turn but the other three are hot on his heels.  Kylie, Ricky and Will like Tom so much that they take to the floor to throw some shapers. Tom is quick to point out that he can still dance he just didn’t because he was looking and listening! Will says he liked the Tom touch, not that Tom touch but this Tom touch. Will then also explains how he came up with the beat that became American Boy. Tom plumps to join team i.am.

Now we get a quick glimpse at some of the unlucky ones, bed salesman Johnny, Blackpool’s eccentric dresser Carol and bar maid Roxanne. Kylie is said that her team is so full and will tells her a that she should follow her dreams, Now we meet flat cap wearing 48 year old Gary. Gary was in some kinda successful bands back in the day and is ready to take to the stage again. He sings Valerie and the audience seem to root for Gary straight away. Ricky does less dithering than normal and hits his buttons followed by the ever tardy Tom. We like how Gary interviews the coaches rather than letting them ask the questions! Gary opts to join Team Tom.

On to former pop star Angie Brown. She sang club classic ‘I’m Gonna Get You’ and takes to the stage to sing ermm… ‘I’m  Gonna Get You.’ Stick with what you know Angie! The audience is loving it but we hear Ricky tell Tom ‘he doesn’t know what he could do with her’ and Angie finishes without any coaches facing her way.  When Angie tells the coaches that was her hit from 1992 they give her a standing ovation. Will tells Angie that song inspired Boom Boom Pow and is delighted to meet the singer.

16 year old Essex girl Lucy next. Lucy has been waiting to turn 16 so she can audition and her Dad fancies Kylie.  Lucy sings ‘Mama Do’ and the coaches look interested. Tom and Kylie think she is Will material but whilst Will agonises its Ricky that goes for it! We are liking decisive Ricky this evening! Lucy cries, says she’s ‘emosh’ and annoys us a smidge…

That’s once place left for every coach and they are feeling the pressure and each looking for something super special. Will former West End star Theresa doe enough? She starred in Gigi back in the day and had huge success but got a throat tumour and was told she would never sing again ending her career. 61 year old Theresa sings ‘I Found Someone’ and hits the highest note of the series so far. It doesn’t get the coaches turning though. It takes a turn for the strange when Theresa sings a song she wrote for Tom called ‘If You’re Going to Touch Me’!

24 year old glamourpuss Bianca now. She sings ‘One ’but those coaches just aren’t easy to please tonight. Bianca feels her nerves let her down.  Can 17 year old Aaliyah do better? Her mum says her music soothes her soul, which is a lovely thing to say. We like Aaliyah’s mum.  Aaliyah has chosen ‘Read all about it’ and performs the Professor Green rap section too. Aaliyah looks devastated when she realises those chairs just aren’t going to turn and the coaches seem disappointed when the see her too. Tom tells her she has plenty of time.

Now it’s Kenny from Liverpool, his nerves are also evident in his chat with Marvin. Kenny sings ‘New York State of Mind’ and has a lovely silky voice. We like him and clearly so does Ricky as he is ready to give Kenny his final spot. That is until Tom turns too putting the power in Kenny’s hands! Will does his voice-over-voice to help Kenny decide and Kylie goes to sit with him on the stage ti ‘distract him’ we don’t think either of these things help Kenny who opts to complete Toms team. So that’s it, the Welsh wonder is done!

Joe now, he’s 19, works in a supermarket and his mum says he is ‘awesome.’ We are unconvinced by Joe’s sideways hat, it’s a bit New Kids on The Block. Joe sings JT’s ‘Mirrors’ and sadly we don’t think his voice is strong enough to get the coaches turning. We are right. The coaches don’t think he’s there yet but at least Kylie likes his arms.

It’s Jersey’s Jamie now. He has lovely long blond locks and is a bit of a glam rocker. He performs ‘Everybody’s Free’ with his electric guitar and Kylie and Will smile at each other nervously. We like it when the song builds and are pleased when Ricky and Kylie turn. We think Ricky might have this one.  Kylie says she liked the emotion in his voice and Ricky bonds over the band background and then insults Jamie’s trousers. Tough love tactics work. Team Ricky is complete.

Will takes about ducks a lot then we meet Nomakohsi, who dreams of being as big as Beyoncé.  Nomakohsi belts out ‘Get Ready’ and Kylie is clearly enjoying it and tells the audience she is ‘gonna go’ and indeed she does. Team Minogue is full too! Like the last two series, its Will.i.am left until the bitter agonising end. Will says its ‘all eyes on him’

61 year old retiree Liz is first to try and win that final place. She has been in bands in the past and had some epic hair do’s. Liz sings ‘A Different Corner’ and Will covers his face with his hands but he doesn’t turn. Will tells Liz that he reminds her of his aunt and then lovely Will gets very emotional and the nation adore’s him more than ever. Kylie tells Liz that singing is the best way to express feelings and thanks Liz for singing today, Liz leaves after a big hug from the coaches.

We meet the final three acts of the competition, one of which will get the final spot in the next round. It’s not Pete, who rocks tweed and sings a fantastic version of Roxanne – we are sad about this because we thinks he’s hot but as ever, Will waits. Will it be Erin or Cherri? Glaswegian Erin sings ‘White Flag’ and Cherri sings ‘Stop’. Its clear Ricky likes Cherri and Tom would have taken Erin but who will Will pick? It’s Cherri!

Phew so that’s it, no more blind auditions! Bring on the battles…
