The Voice UK knockouts recap 1

We’re back again for another round of The Voice and this week is The Knockouts. First up is Kylie’s team member Leo, looking especially handsome this evening singing I Want To Know What Love Is and the crowd was just as impressed, as were the judges. Leo belted the song out with emotion whilst Jai chose Scissor Sisters’ Take Your Mama as her song. Ever so sexy Jade was up next with her rendition of Blue Moon. Pitchy at times Jade decided to make up for her vocal shortcomings with a very seductive set.

Lee stayed true to himself by doing a touching version of Careless Whisper, which was both bold and fragile at the same time. Kylie seemed particularly moved and was ever so encouraging to her team. When Femi’s turn came he chose to sing California Dreaming and we did enjoy that particularly. He’s enthusiasm and passion was flowing off the stage. Rachel came on the stage and belted a sweet version of Paloma Faith’s New York single. She was pitchy at times but her charisma carried her through.

Happy chap Jamie ended Kylie’s team’s set and decided to go for Sex On Fire and we can’t say we particularly liked his version, for us he lacked the fieriness.

The judges were very complimentary but it was Kylie who broke and made dreams tonight. Seven had to become three and Kylie decided who would make the live shows. Lee, Jamie and Rachel were the lucky contestants whilst Leo, Jai and Jade were sent home. The winning and losing contestants were both emotional as well as the contestants’ families.

Tom team was up next and we were all ears waiting for the contestants to fight for their spots on the live shows. Up first was Celestine and she wasted no time showing she owned the stage whilst singing You Might Need Somebody passionately. For us this was a wining performance with a big vocal reveal. Melissa stayed true to her colours with a kooky performance of I Love Rock Roll. This was our favourite performance of the night in terms of originality. Gary the music teacher took the stage next and sang George Michael’s Freedom comfortably. Bizzi took the stage and song one of his favourite songs, When I Need You. He gave the track a jazzy twist, which was hit and miss for some. We thought he was a little pitchy and didn’t really do the song justice. Georgia had that saucy secretary look on and sang a quirky version of Three Little Birds and gave the performance of the night with all four judges giving a stand ovation.

From Tom’s team next was Steven. He decided to sing Mika’s Grace Kelly. Steven held his ground and managed to hit all the high notes on the song. Then it was Sally’s turn to sing and she did a beautiful rendition of Walk On By. We love this woman’s soul and how she managed to grab everyone’s hearts.

And it was Tom’s time to pick his top three going through to the live rounds were Georgia, Sally and Bizzi. These contestants were delighted whilst Celestine, Melissa and Gary left with their heads held up high.

That was the first round of The Knockouts and Kylie and Tom Jones have both their live teams sorted whilst Will.I.Am and Ricky Wilson still have their tough decision to make.
