The Following season 2 Family Affair recap

The Following answered a few questions tonight during its latest episode and posed plenty more.

If you havenā€™t seen the latest episode or donā€™t like spoilers then stop reading now. If you are up-to-date with the show then keep reading for a recap of all the latest.

Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) emerged from the shadows (well the outback) with his serial killer in training Mandy (Tiffany Boone) in latest episode Family Affair. After knifing her mother to death in last weekā€™s episode, Mandy appears to have gotten a taste for murder that weā€™re sure will get her killed at some point this season.

The episode opened with Joe and Mandy observing a young mother entering her well-to-do suburban house. Known as Jana (Leslie Bibb), the woman was startled when she discovered her baby missing and her daughter telling her that ā€˜the manā€™ took him. Unsure of whatā€™s going on Jana spies Joe in her garden cradling her baby and soon her fear turns into joy as it transpires that she is one of Joeā€™s many (and endless?) followers. A conversation reveals that Joe was supposed to have visited Jana earlier but he tells her he had to make a detour. She provides him with fake IDs and tells him that sheā€™s on the hunt for his son Joey who is deep in witness protection.

Mandy questioned Joe about whether he would murder Jenna or not insisting that now sheā€™s served her purpose she should disposed of. Joe explained that not everyone has to be murdered and that death is a gift that shouldnā€™t be afforded to just anyone. Well thatā€™s one way of looking at it! Jana packed Joe and Mandy some food, handed over a plan that is ā€˜in playā€™ that Roderick devised and saw them on their merry little way.

So who exactly is Jana then? A reveal at the end of the episode told us that she is the partner of Agent Mendez (Valerie Cruz) but itā€™s unclear if they are still together or separated. Mendez calls Jenna to ask her to pick up the kids as sheā€™s got to work to which Jana responds unhappily. Did you see that one coming? We certainly didnā€™t.

Lily (Connie Nielsen) has retreated to a (huge) mansion in the middle of nowhere with Luke, Mark (Sam Underwood) and Emma (Valorie Curry). As she arrives at the house, Lily greets the rest of her ā€˜familyā€™ which consists of a variety of teenagers from across Europe. She appealed to a reluctant Emma who was incredibly suspicious of this new follower and it looks like a power struggle is going to emerge sooner rather than later. During a candid conversation with Emma, Lily appeals to the troubled followerā€™s mummy issues to get her on side. Mark interrupts the chat when Joe calls and rushes to them. Emma picks up the phone and realises that Joe really is alive and she agrees to meet him telling him the new followers are ā€˜safeā€™.

Later as Lily prepares for Joeā€™s arrival thereā€™s a hint that she may be a little too close to Luke, although as we discovered sheā€™s not the actual mother of the twins, and she told the twins that she didnā€™t trust Emma. Well the feeling is mutual as Emma wasted no time in telling Joe that the followers are ā€˜crazyā€™ (you know with her being so sane and all) after taking out some serious anger and frustration on him. Joe seemed pretty impressed with Lily though didnā€™t he folks when she made her grand entrance and the two met for the first time?

Meanwhile Ryan (Kevin Bacon) continued to interfere in the FBIā€™s investigation with the help of his niece Max (Jessica Stroup). Seriously does she have nothing to do in her job? Ryan cottons on that the FBI are tracking him but still keeps his eye on Mendez to learn more about the case. Desperate to find out who Lily really is, Ryan sets about finding her injured business partner David. The trouble is Giselle (Camille de Pazzis) is already on the case and sheā€™s located him in a rental property owned by his lawyer. After picking her way into the apartment, Giselle tries to convince David to take sleeping pills so it looks like heā€™s over-dosed. When he refuses she fights him to the ground and garrottes him, leaving him dead on the floor. As she leaves the apartment Ryan arrives and he soon realises that she is responsible.

As Giselle sped away in a car, Ryan took pictures of the licence plate before having to answer to Mendez about why he was on the scene again. She had him arrested for obstruction and held leaving Max to carry on the sleuthing. Mike (Shawn Ashmore) paid Max a visit to deter her from helping Ryan but when his friendly words turned to threats she kicked him out of her office. No idiot, Mike spotted that both Max and Ryan are using new phones and quickly realises they are trying to cover up their involvement in the case.

Max located Giselle at a cafĆ© near Grand Central station and under Ryanā€™s instructions she patiently waited at a near-by table so she could keep an eye on her. When Giselle makes to leave, Max decided to follow her ā€“ against Ryanā€™s wishes ā€“ and ended up in a fight in the middle of the street. By the time Ryan arrived, Max was on the ground and Giselle had run into the station. They decided to split up to cover more ground and Max spotted Giselle hiding on the platform Ryan was searching. As a train pulled up Giselle attacked Ryan and managed to break free and get away. Ryan received a call from Max who managed to sneak on the train and continue following Giselle.

The Following season 2 continues Monday at 9/8c on FOX in the US and Tuesday at 10pm on Sky Atlantic in the UK.Ā
