Steve Backshall leaves Strictly Come Dancing 2014

Naturalist Steve Backshall hung up his dancing shoes tonight and left Strictly Come Dancing 2014.

Steve and his partner Ola Jordan lost the dance-off to Sunetra Sarker and her partner Brendan Cole. Both couples performed their routines once again and then it was over to the judges to make their decisions.

Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli chose to save Sunetra & Brendan, and Darcey Bussell chose to save Steve & Ola. Head judge Len Goodman agreed with Craig and Bruno saving Sunetra & Brendan.

Talking about his time on the show Steve said: ā€œIā€™ll be gutted to go but the first thing I have to say is to this extraordinary lady, walking out on Blackpool Ballroom floor with all that nostalgia and history, with a dancer of your calibre, being taught to dance by you is an experience Iā€™ll never forget and I am so, so privileged by that.ā€

Ola added, ā€œYou were absolutely brilliant to teach and work with. You struggled a lot with your injuries and you worked so hard, you gave me 100% in training, so thank you very much for being so wonderful.ā€

Tonight’s results show welcomed back Strictly pro Robin Windsor in the opening pro number and featured two performances from Barry Manilow.

Strictly Come Dancing 2014 continues with an Around The World special Saturday at 7pm on BBC One. See all the action from tonight’s show in our gallery:
