Sky Arts to premiere Bolshoi Ballet performances

Six classic Bolshoi Ballet performances discovered in the Russian state archive will receive their UK TV premiere on Sky Arts.

The recordings have been re-mastered exclusively for Sky Arts, and they have never before been broadcast outside of Russia.

Bolshoi Unseen: Swan Lake will be the first performance to be broadcast, and it will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Bolshoi Ballet’s first visit to Britain.

The other five performances include Adam and Eve, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.

All these recordings have been in a Moscow vault ever since their original airing on USSR state television.

The name Bolshoi is synonymous with excellence; it’s one of the most iconic ballet powerhouses in the world, so when I heard that there were unseen classic performances, and that Unique and RTR could use technology to restore them to their life-like glory, I just had to pinch-myself,” comments James Hunt, Director of Sky Arts

Catch Bolshoi Unseen: Swan Lake on Sunday, 11th of August at 8pm on Sky Arts 2.
