ITV1’s new celebrity sports show Splash! started tonight as five celebrities put their diving skills to the test.
Sugababe Jade Ewen, comedienne Helen Lederer, actor Jake Canuso, TV presenter Jenni Falconer and comedian/actor Omid Djalili all took to the diving board to show what they can do. Olympic diver Tom Daley has been working closely with the celebrities to help them perfect their dives and in some cases overcome their fears.
After all five had dived Omid was a surprise leader on the scoreboard with Jake a close second followed by Jenni, Jade and Helen. The judges scores were then combined with the public vote to determine which celebrity would sail through to the semi-final. The two celebs with the highest scores after that had to compete in the dive-off and the other two celebs were elimnated from the competition.
Omid went through purely on the public vote whilst Jake and Jenni had to dive again in the hope of being saved by the judges. After both had dived the judges opted to save Jake stating that his dive was technically more difficult and adventurous.
Omid and Jake now have three weeks to prepare for the Splash! semi-final. The show returns next Saturday night as Tom Daley coaches another five celebs who will be battling for the next two semi-final places.
