New comedy series High and Dry coming to E4

Channel 4 has announced a new comedy series from Marc Wooten (Drunk History), High and Dry.

The six part series revolves around the survivors of a plane crash who have washed up on a desert island in the Pacific. Led by intense sociopathic air steward and self-proclaimed ‘King of the Island’ Brett (Wootton) the survivors band together in order to survive. This group thrust together by adversity includes cautious family man Douglas played by Harry Peacock (Far From the Madding Crowd), straight talking Harriet played by Vicki Pepperdine (Getting on) and spaced out Arnab played by Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing)
The camaraderie doesn’t last long however as the survivors realise they are trapped on an island with the world’s worst human being, Brett.

“I Brett Tracey Sullivan, son of George and Mary Sullivan, pledge to explore this strange, exotic island, to seek out new civilisations and new life, to boldly go where no air steward has EVER gone before….”

Jack Bayles, Commissioning Editor of the series has said: “In High & Dry, Marc has conceived a brilliantly ambitious, yet utterly ridiculous new sitcom. Alongside Brett – truly the air steward from hell – is a fantastic assortment of characters played by a wonderful ensemble cast. It’s totally, totally nuts and we love it.”

Wooten adding: “We are fortunate enough to have attracted the finest of comedy casts who make me laugh daily. The only shame in all this, is that we are being forced to film the entire show in the Seychelles. The commute is nightmarish.”

The series promises to showcase new comedy talent and at least in terms of premise, writing and direction it seems encouraging. I look forward to seeing the finished series.

High and Dry is currently being filmed on location in the Seychelles and is directed by Dave Lambert (Alan Partridge, Zapped).
