Recently we revealed a new series coming to CANAL+ Group (France) and Netflix (UK), Safe. The cast has now been revealed and, as expected, it is a high quality group!
As previously announced Michael C Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) is playing Tom, a widowed paediatric surgeon and father of two teenage daughters who finds himself on a journey to protect his family.
Hall will be joined by Amanda Abbington (Sherlock, Crooked House) who will be taking on the role of Sophie, a formidable detective sergeant and single mother who lives in the same gated community as Tom and is burdened by secrets of her own.
Amanda said: “The collaboration of Harlan Coben, Danny Brocklehurst and RED Productions is what drew me to this role. It’s a fantastic project and I’m thrilled to be working with Michael C Hall and the rest of the talented cast. It’s a great story and I hope people will love it”
Playing the role of Josh, Sophie’s estranged husband, will be Emmett J Scanlan (The Fall). Scanlan’s character is desperately clinging on to his youth through excessive partying and does so in plain sight whilst living in an old caravan on Sophie’s driveway.
Emmett said “To get to tell stories like this one, and to be surrounded by such talented people, it almost feels like I’ve gate-crashed a party… luck of the Irish it would seem…”
Star of Kaamelott and Spiral Audrey Fleurot will play Zoe, a teacher living with her husband of twenty years, Neil. However, her innocence masks dark secrets.
Audrey said: “I’m a huge fan of Harlan’s work and it’s an honour for me to work with him in an English show of this level. I can’t wait to see the result!”
Marc Warren (Hustle, Mad Dogs), Nigel Lindsay (Victoria, Four Lions) and Laila Rouass (Holby, Footballers Wives) complete the cast as Pete, Tom’s best friend and married couple Jojo and Lauren Marshall respectively. As with all the other characters, the apparent idylls they inhabit conceal a far darker and more dramatic truth.
Filming has already begun on the series in Manchester and is due for release in 2018.
Safe is executive produced by Michael C Hall, Nicola Shindler, Harlan Coben, Danny Brocklehurst and RED’s Head of Development, Richard Fee. The series is produced by RED Production Company.
Safe will be shown on free-to-air channel C8 (CANAL+ Group) in France and Netflix globally outside of France in 2018.
