Doctor Who spin-off Downtime comes to DVD

In 1995, when Doctor Who had been off the air for six years, an unofficial, non-BBC special production called Downtime was created. It fulfilled the fan dream of providing more Doctor Who for its new programme-starved fans. Although the Doctor is absent from the story, Downtime brings together a host of much-loved characters from the show, played by the original actors.

The much missed Nicholas Courtney and Elisabeth Sladen returned as the Brigadier and Sarah Jane Smith. Deborah Watling reprised her role as Victoria Waterfield – travelling companion to Patrick Troughton’s Doctor. John Leeson, for many years the voice of robot dog K9, plays a quirky DJ. There are a host of other actors whose names were connected to Doctor Who, including James Bree, Geoffrey Beevers, and Jack Watling, who reprised his part as Professor Travers, last seen in the Troughton era’s The Web of Fear…

The Yeti return to wreak havoc yet again in a story directed by Christopher Barry (who was behind the camera for so many classic Doctor Whos) and written by Marc Platt (Ghost Light).

Downtime is being released by Koch Media and is available to own on DVD from 16th November. Check out the trailer above.
