24 to continue without Kiefer Sutherland

Fox has announced that 24 is set to continue without lead star Kiefer Sutherland.

Following the end of limited series 24: Live Another Day in 2014, there has been much speculation about the future of the show, especially as it ended on an almighty cliffhanger involving Sutherland’s Jack Bauer. The series is set to continue with a 12-episode season known as 24: Legacy.

Fox News reports that Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox made the announcement at the Television Critics Association yesterday. At this stage a pilot for the series has been ordered but no casting has been confirmed.

ā€œThe pilot was just ordered, so in terms of casting, we have had conversations with the producers,ā€ Walden said. ā€œThe lead is Eric Carter. He is clearly a significant focus of the show; there is also a female co-lead who is a former head of CTU.ā€

24: Legacy is set to follow African American military hero Eric Carter who returns to the US and asks CTU for help to save his life and stop a terrorist attack on American soil.

Fox is remaining coy about the possibility of cameos or supporting roles for characters that have already appeared in 24 over the past 9 seasons. A cameo from Kiefer Sutherland looks unlikely as he’s committed to a new series for ABC.
