New Dawn Fades at City Varieties

New Dawn Fades is the story of four lads who, inspired by the punk revolution, came together to form the band Joy Division. The play places the band within the context of Manchester’s history, setting the scene for a fascinating look at the Joy Division story.

The legendary Anthony H Wilson, co-founder of Factory Records and founder-manager of The Hacienda nightclub, is played by Lee Joseph in all his brilliant pretension. He guides the audience through the heart and soul of both the band and the City of Manchester, interviewing an array of historical figures along the way, including Johnny Rotten, Karl Marx and the Buzzcocks.

With a backdrop of domestic drudgery and greyness and live performances of Joy Division’s most famous tracks the production is a tale of love, passion, progress, grief and, of course, music.

New Dawn Fades is at City Varieties Music Hall on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th April. Tickets are priced at £19.10. Book online at cityvarieties.co.uk or call the Box Office on 0113 243 08 08.
