Ghost The Musical comes to Yorkshire

In 1990 the film Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, was an Oscar- winning hit and now it is set to come to the stage. Ghost The Musical is at Leeds Grand Theatre from June 18th to 29th – the only Yorkshire venue on the first UK tour.

The film’s writer Bruce Joel Rubin has adapted his original script for the stage.  “I had a vision of how the emotional moments in the story could be sung and how in that way, it would be more deeply felt,” he says. “It is so seamlessly achieved that even with seventeen songs, the stage show runs for the same length of time as the movie.”

Directed by the Tony award winning Matthew Warchus (Matilda, Art) with music and lyrics by Grammy award winning Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard, Ghost the Musical is a timeless fantasy about the power of love.

Sam (Stewart Clark) is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next trying to communicate with girlfriend Molly through a phoney psychic (Wendy Mae Brown) in the hope of saving her from his murderer.  “When we opened I didn’t know what to expect. At the end of the first performance, there was a level of response which I’d never experienced- people stamping their feet, whistling and cheering… we had it on every night.” continues Rubin. “Something in Ghost The Musical speaks to the audience. They laugh, they cry and in the transfer from screen to stage musical, I think that the story has deepened emotionally.”

Ghost the Musical is at Leeds Grand Theatre from Tuesday 18thJune to Saturday 29th. Tickets are priced from £16 to £31.50.Book online at leedsgrandtheatre.com or call the box office on 0844 848 2700.
