The X Factor 2015 week 5 live show recap

This week was jukebox week, which meant that it was down to the public to decide what the contestants had to sing. This meant that the judges Simon Cowell, Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora had to take a sit back and enjoy the first half of the show.

Louisa Johnson

The song: Love Yourself – Justin Bieber (chosen by the public on Twitter)

Our verdict: Louisa opted for a track that really made her vocals shine. This was never going to be difficult with a voice like hers. We enjoyed the performance immensely and thought that Louisa looked great on stage and truly like a pro.

The comments: Cheryl thought that she was fantastic. Simon thought that the performance started off well but that it wasn’t Louisa at her best tonight. Nick agreed with Cheryl and said that Louisa was so good. Rita said that she opened the show amazingly and that she was a star.

The song: Jealous – Labrinth (chosen by Rita)

Our verdict: Closing the show tonight was Louisa, who seemed to regain her confidence and looked simply stunning in a sparkly dress. The vocals matched the look and completely blew us away.

The comments: Cheryl said the second performance was much better and that she’s smashed it. Simon said that the second song was performed with a lot of passion and that Louisa was potentially one of the best contestants the show ever had. Nick said the song was so special and so real and that her performance grabbed his attention and even enjoyed her voice with a cold.

4th Impact

The song: I’ll Be There – Jackson 5 (chosen by the public on Twitter)

Our verdict: We used to really enjoy 4th Impacts performances but in most recent weeks the girls have pushed their vocals too much and this week the girls were shouting the tune rather than singing it and it just didn’t work for us.

The comments: Simon with no more contestants in the competitions decided to be the impartial judge this week and said that he loved the girls performance. Nick also thought that the girls were great performers and the song showed a new side to the band. Rita joked about some of the big notes the girls sang but still complimented them.

The song: Fancy Rich Girl – Gwen Stefani & Eve VS Iggy Azalea & Charli XCX (chosen by Cheryl)

Our verdict: The second track the girls sang wasn’t exactly better and we failed to get what it was the girls were trying to achieve. The colourful performance maybe deterred a little bit from the vocals but not enough.

The comments: Simon thought that the song finally showed the four girls’ personalities and Nick thought he could go see the girls perform on tour after seeing them on the show. Rita didn’t get the boxes or the style but loved the vocals.

Reggie N Bollie

The song: Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) – Silentó (chosen by the public on Twitter)

Our verdict: We have a bit of sore spot for Reggie N Bollie who are simply great on stage and this week come complete with mini versions of themselves. Their performance was full of energy and brought sunshine to the stage, which is the reason we love them. Cheryl decided to join the boys on stage and danced with the duo clearly showing her intention of winning this years competition.

The comments: Simon kicked off the comments although he found it hard to speak over the screaming crowd but finally said that the boys got it so right. Rita told the boys that they were possibly on the way to becoming the big contenders on the show.

The song: Dynamite – Taio Cruz (chosen by Cheryl)

Our verdict: Cheryl couldn’t have picked a better song for the duo but we thought the performance lacked a bit of sensationalism. Unlike the other contestants we thought that Reggie N Bollie’s second performance lacked oomph.

The comments: Simon said that the contestants had turned into artists and that they’d done amazingly well. Nick said they’d become national treasures whilst Rita said that they lacked the vocals but made up with their individuality.

Lauren Murray

The song: Firestone – Kygo ft. Conrad Sewell (chosen by the public on Twitter)

Our verdict: Lauren didn’t sound as confident this week and started her performance a bit shakily but managed to get back on track. Her ballad version of the track was meant to make her vocals shine but the singer sounded unsure to us but even so it was a good, solid performance from this great singer.

The comments: Cheryl said that Lauren looked amazing but that she sounded nervous to begin with. Simon felt that it was the wrong song for her and that she was lucky to have a second song to sing. Nick disagreed and said that she could sing anything.

The song: You Don’t Own Me – Grace ft. G-Eazy (chosen by Rita)

Our verdict: Lauren looked smokin’ hot on stage and her vocals were absolutely fierce. The song kept on getting better and better and we couldn’t keep our eyes from the young singer. We thought the performance was controlled and full of confidence.

The comments: Cheryl thought that the performance was amazing and that Lauren had turned into a different persona. Simon thought the performance was on a different league and that she sounded really good and was sensational.

Che Chesterman

The song: Hello – Adele (chosen by the public on Twitter)

Our verdict: Che sang one of the most current songs of the competition singing Adele’s current number one hit. We were a little doubtful about the performance and weren’t quite sure as to whether Che was doing his own version or whether he’d simply forgotten the lyrics? Towards the end of his performance Che seemed to lose his confidence and this impacted on his vocals.

The comments: Rita said that Che lost his way during the song but that hopefully his vocals would save him. Cheryl said that the biggest singers in the world have had their problems on stage and therefore he shouldn’t let this performance get to him. Simon said that he was grateful there was another song to sing and that Che should come out and completely smash it.

The song: Try A Little Tenderness – Otis Redding (chosen by Nick)

Our verdict: Trying to pull himself back with his second performance, Che did a much better job. The young singer was more comfortable on familiar ground singing a classic soul song and some of the notes were really impressive and reminded us why Che is in this competition.

The comments: Rita thought that he did such a good job and Cheryl said that it was like night and day and that it was a smashing vocal performance. Simon commented that he was a brilliant singer and wiped his previous performance on the floor.

The X Factor results will be on tomorrow night on ITV.
