The Vampire Diaries to end after season 8

The Vampire Diaries will take its fans to Mystic Falls for the final time when the show returns to The CW on 21st October 2016 in the US.

It was announced at San Diego Comic Con that the long-running vampire series will conclude with its eighth and final season. Rumours have been circulating for a while that the show was nearing its end following the departure of Nina Dobrev during season six and falling ratings for season seven.

At this time it’s unclear if Dobrev will reprise her role as Elena for the final season.

A video has been released featuring cast members Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Candice King, Michael Malarkey, Matt Davis and Zack Roerig along with show creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, as they pay tribute to the show and its fans.
