Tom is the seventh to leave The Great British Bake Off

Desserts week arrived and the hot temperature in the tent definitely didn’t help any of the bakers this week.

Just one week away from the quarter-final, the six remaining bakers were tasked with making roulades for the Signature Challenge. Some of the bakers suffered from runny fillings and Tom was criticised for covering his entire roulade in chocolate so you couldn’t see the swirl.

The Technical Challenge was to make a Marjorlaine (no we’d never heard of it either). The dessert was layered meringue with nut flavoured buttercream covered in nuts and toped with even more nuts. All of the bakers did a reasonable job but it was Andrew who won the challenge thanks to his neat decoration and crunchy meringue layers.

The Show Stopper challenge was all about mini mousse cakes and the very hot day did nothing to help the bakers. With the exception of Andrew and Tom, the rest of the bakers struggled to set their mousse and Benjamina’s melted all over the place. Andrew got the highest praise for his bakes, which he presented on a ferris wheel.

Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry deliberated and decided that Andrew deserved Star Baker this week. In terms of who was going home, they picked Tom who struggled with all three challenges.

The Great British Bake Off continues at 8pm Wednesday on BBC One.
