Jesse (Dominic Cooper) escaped from Sheriff Root (W. Earl Brown) on the penultimate episode of Preacher’s first season.
Before he did he tried to tell him that he’d accidentally sent Eugene (Ian Colletti) to hell but the Sheriff ignored him. Jesse launched himself out of the Sheriff’s car and headed back to find Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) who was well nourished after Emily (Lucy Griffiths) fed Miles (Ricky Mabe) to him.
Jesse also called Tulip (Ruth Negga) and left her a voicemail acknowledging their past and his feelings for her.
Elsewhere in the episode Cassidy acquired an angel’s hand to use the telephone to Heaven, the Sheriff accidentally allowed the Seraphim to come back to life, and Tulip captured Carlos (Desmin Borges).
The season finale is Call and Response. It is the day the entire town has been waiting for, as Jesse tries to follow through on his promise to get answers from Heaven.
