Nashville 5×10 I’ll Fly Away preview

Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) breathed her last breath on the latest episode of Nashville.

The Country Queen was rushed into hospital following her car accident and the early signs were hopeful. With Deacon (Charles Esten), Maddie (Lennon Stella), Daphne (Maisy Stella), Scarlett (Clare Bowen), Gunnar (Sam Palladio), Will (Chris Carmack), Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) and Avery (Jonathan Jackson) rushing to her side, Rayna seemed to pull through the worst of her injuries and lay recovering following surgery.

In a quiet moment Rayna saw her dead mother and started talking to her, leading Deacon to worry that all was not well. He was proven right when Daphne and her choir sang in Rayna’s hospital room and midway through the performance the bed-ridden Rayna started to crash.

Rushed into the ICU, Deacon and the family were told that Rayna’s body was shutting down. As they fought back tears, Daphne, Maddie and Deacon sang A Life That’s Good and part way through the song Rayna took her last breath and passed away.

Elsewhere in the episode Juliette panicked when she started experiencing crippling pain in her leg. After a scan, she was told it was nothing to worry about but she didn’t seem all that convinced.

Gunnar told Scarlett that he was going to fight for her, unable to accept their relationship had come to an end.

The next episode of the season is I’ll Fly Away. A legal dispute threatens to break apart the family. Juliette demands to perform at the CMT Music Awards. Will and Zach are drawn closer together.
