The Last Republic hails from Swansea and beat 3500 other bands to win last year’s Road To V competition. Having recently supported Bon Jovi at The O2, the band is gearing up for the release of their eagerly awaited debut single (C’mon) Flood The Gates. Has it been worth the wait?
(C’Mon) Flood The Gates is a radio-friendly indie-rock track that would fit perfectly in the current Kerrang FM and Radio 1 playlists. With a strong beat and catchy melodies, the band sounds a little like a more rocked up Keane. Whilst the song is hardly anything innovative or particularly original, it does have a certain charm. The chorus sticks in your head and the guitar riffs elevate the song above the band’s contemporaries.
As we await the release of debut album Parade in September, (C’mon) Flood The Gates is a decent teaser to whet our appetites. We have a feeling that The Last Republic has a lot more to offer and that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
