Ah The Boy Who Trapped The Sun has captured us it seems. Last time we heard his Water mark EP we’d thought we’d finally found something worth listening to its entirety and not feel like time had been robed from us. So of course now that a new EP is coming out we had to have a listen immediately.
Home the lead single on the EP is very smooth and has a very American sound to it but of course the one thing we cannot resist is MacLeod’s sultry voice and heartfelt lyrics. Home is about missing his hometown in Scotland and living in London city.
We move to more intimate stuff with In The Dark a song that is seductive in its simplicity. Colin MacLeod plays guitar and sings about ghosts that have been haunting him it seems.
The Fox is another beautiful song. MacLeod has added some piano to this one and leads with his voice and dark lyrics. It’s obvious that The Boy Who Trapped The Sun is big on lyrics and takes a lot of time perfecting his message.
One of our favourite tracks on the album (even though we like all of it) is Lying To Get On Your Good Side a different kind of song for MacLeod. It’s like for a moment we aren’t in folk heaven anymore but in a New Orleans café. We particularly like the funny lyrics, which are as the title may suggest about trying to get into someone’s good side until the fall in love with us. Its good stuff and very different from the rest of the EP.
Last on is Change The Clocks another beautiful folky ballad.
The Boy Who Trapped The Sun is the kind of artist we love. We are aware that for some his style may be a little to depressing and dark but there is a lot of sarcasm in this music and a lot of brilliance as well. Home EP is another great collection from this young talented artist.
