You just knew that with the likes of Glee and Jedward rehashing the 80s and 90s that a retrospective of that era was bound to hit the shops sooner rather than later. Well wait no more as Push It! is about to be unleashed on the public and believe us when we say it’s catchier than swine flu. Featuring 40 tracks spread across two discs, Push It! is the ultimate look-back at the best party and dance tracks of the 80s and 90s.
Opening with the classic Salt N Pepa track Push It (recently covered by the spritely cast of Glee) the compilation gets off to a rip-roaring start. As you hurtle through a series of fantastic tunes, all the while remember some serious fashion mishaps, you soon realise that they don’t make dance music like they used to. The songs here are original, fresh and come from an era where a booming beat and the same repetitive line just simply didn’t cut it. Gems across the 40 tracks include Bobby Brown’s awesome Two Can Play That Game, Color Me Badd’s naughty ditty I Wanna Sex You Up, 2 Unlimited’s number one hogging No Limits and Livin’ Joy’s infectious chart pounder Dreamer.
Trying to pick out the best tracks is a difficult task. Every single song here is a classic in its own right and EF remembers far too many cringeworthy memories associated with each and every one. N-Trance’s Set You Free is a serious contender but we must give the title of best track to the ridiculous but amazing Groove Is In The Heart by one-hit wonders Deee-Lite. The track still gets our party started and we’re sure it will for years to come.
We could literally wax lyrical about this collection all day – and at the rate Glee is going they’ll have covered all the songs before the end of season one – but all good things must come to an end. Push It! is too amazing for our simple words to describe. Sure there’s a healthy slice of cheese on this collection but who cares when it gets you dancing with your hands in the air?
