Washington native Brandi Carlile releases her new single Dreams this week. It's taken from her third studio album Give Up The Ghost which has featured in trailers and promos for a host of US TV shows including Greys Anatomy and it's spin-off Private Practice. The songstress has also toured with the likes of Maroon 5 and OneRepublic and has collaborated with none other than Elton John on a track called Caroline which features on the current album.
Dreams starts off in good stead but what becomes clear after just a few seconds is that this track doesn't really take you on a journey, despite it's best intentions. Carlile has a distinct sound that I'm sure appeals to a lot of people but for me she just comes across as an imitation of other artists. The song nonetheless does flow quite well and the lyrics are deep and without pretence.
Dreams could have been a great song but doesnt quite work. Whilst the track isn't bad it also isn't very good either... I expected more from such a talented performer.
