Katie Melua – Where Does The Ocean Go single review

Katie will soon embark on her Simplified tour, which will see her performing some of her old classics and taking her latest album on the road, as she focuses songs from her sixth studio album – Ketevan. When Ketevan entered the UK charts at number 6, Katie joined a small group of female artists, which includes Madonna and Kate Bush, who have scored 6 consecutive UK top 10 studio albums.

Where Does The Ocean Go? is her latest single taken from the album and it was inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. The song was written by Katie, with the help of Mike and Luke Batt. It takes only one listen to the song for it to hit you with the wow effect, how many songs can you say that has that immediate effect?

Where Does The Ocean Go? has such an understated and uncomplicated sound, with Katie’s unique and gorgeous voice carrying the song as if she is singing a lullaby to you and hits the listener with a lot of tenderness. The overall sound is sweet, warm and relaxing. Katie’s voice has matured greatly with every new album that she has released over the past decade and keeps on getting better and better, which is no easy feat when she has the likes of Nine Million Bicycles and The Closest Thing To Crazy in her back-catalogue.

You could almost imagine this song being played in an A-list romantic movie, as the heroine loses her prince charming, or is involved in a love battle. Have a listen and you’ll understand what we mean. The song will force you to relax and get lost in the sound. It’s such a beautiful track from Katie Melua that has a lazy Sunday afternoon feel and classy stamped all over it.
