Apples & Eve – Dionysus EP review

Apples & Eve come hailing from lovely Brighton. The band blends folk, alternative and gypsy flavours in their music. Their live shows include Bedroom Bar, Komedia and Hoxton Bar & Grill. They are now releasing their new EP Dionysus.

We kick off the EP with the title track, which sounds quite mellow and has a hint of Greek folk to it. Dionysus has quite a fair amount of instrumental bits and is the kind of track you expect to hear in a field at a festival. The track seems to take a while to take off but once its there it reaches its apotheosis.

L’homme is also quite melodic but this time the double bass does most of the work giving the track a real South American folk vibe. The vocals are quite seductive and will lure you in. The Colours of the War is quite dramatic in comparison and quite devilish.

Last on the album is a very sultry Creatures of The Sea. We love the energy that comes from this track and how it makes you want to slow dance a good end to this EP.

Dionysus is a good EP however we feel it is quite niched and might not appeal to everyone. The EP is quite mellow and we have no doubt that Apples & Eve would sound great at a festival.
