Fresh from releasing their new and fourth studio album, Worhead, Little Comets have embarked on a UK tour and I could not miss it. On Thursday, the band was playing its London gig in Koko and I was there.
Last time I saw Little Comets was when they were also playing Koko, supporting their last album, Hope Is Just A State of Mind. Although Koko is not my favourite venue when it comes to sound, the space is good and the atmosphere is always great. Little Comets played to a sold out venue and the crowd was packed with seasoned fans.
I hadn’t heard the band play since the new band members joined and was curious to see what the new line-up added to the band. To my relief the original tracks of band sounded just as good and have remained untainted and the new bandmates seem to add more edge to the new songs.  Worry and Jennifer were great tracks to get the crowd going. Little Comets stayed true to their style by not talking too much and mainly focusing on playing as many tracks as possible. The new tracks sounded great live, Common Things and The Man Who Wrote Thriller worked very well especially with their big bridges and anthem-like choruses.
Of course old classics also satisfied the crowd, including Adultery and One Night In October to which the room chanted along to. It was grand. The musicianship of the band has also matured and this was clear. The melodies are still the main focus of each of the band’s tracks except some of the new album, which sound perhaps more adventurous yet.
Little Comets ended the gig the only way they could and that is with the epic Dancing Song. Of course this was a great way to end the night and people left with big smiles.
Little Comets alway shine on stage and Thursday night was no exception. I must say the highlight for me was to hear the band’s new material, which sounded phenomenal live. I think the band is in great shape and has stayed true to its style but it has also matured. If you have never experienced the band live but love the music then you are missing out.
