Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is You Original Motion Picture Soundtrack review

Mariah Carey is without a doubt the undisputed Queen of Christmas. Since the release of her song All I Want For Christmas is You in 1994, Carey has dominated the air waves at this time of year. That song shoots into the upper reaches of the charts on a yearly basis and is one of the most popular Christmas songs in the world. This year Carey transformed the song into an animated family movie, based on the song and the book. Accompanying the wonderful movie is the soundtrack, which is sure to inject some festive cheer into your life.

Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is You Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features three of Carey’s already released holiday songs – Christmas Time is in the Air Again (from 2010’s Merry Christmas II You) and Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) and of course All I Want For Christmas is You (from 1994’s Merry Christmas). All three songs feature heavily in the movie and they showcase the breadth of Carey’s love for the season, going from the joyous to the more reflective.

What is likely to be the big draw here is the inclusion of a brand new Christmas song from Carey titled Lil Snowman. The track samples Run Rudolph Run and gives Carey a sound we’ve not heard from her before. The uptempo gem whizzes by in a flurry of festive cheer and it’s a worthy addition to Carey’s increasingly lengthy list of holiday songs.

Elsewhere on the soundtrack Breanna Yde, who voices Mariah in the movie, puts her own take on All I Want For Christmas is You and Issac Ryan Brown, who voices Mariah’s brother Brett, gets a moment to shine on Wild & Crazy Christmas. For me they are the two weakest moments on here and they are likely to strike a chord with kids rather than adults who enjoyed the movie.

The soundtrack closes with three instrumentals by Richard Evans, Matthew Gerard and Marco Luciani that underpin key moments in the movie. They are suitably festive, fitting in with the other songs included here. Mariah’s Christmas Theme is the best of the three and it really evokes the season with sweeping instrumentation and jingling bells.

An added bonus is that the soundtrack comes with a colouring book. It’s a really nice added extra and one that parents can share with their kids over the holidays. The drawings are all scenes from the movie and they should keep kids occupied for hours.

Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is You Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a festive treat. For fans of the movie it’s a must-have and for those with young children who maybe don’t know about Carey yet, it should kickstart their love of the world’s best-selling female artist of all-time. To be honest, it’s worth it for the new track alone!
