There are so many festivals happening on the August bank holiday weekend, we have had to itch our heads and have a deep think about where we really want to be and where YOU really need to be.
As regular festival goers, we have decided that there is only one festival where we want to spend the August bank holiday weekend this year and that is at the Reading/Leeds Festival. Here are the reasons why we and you do not want to miss out on what is to be one of the highlights of this year’s UK festival season!
What other things are great about the Reading festival? It’s alternative, non-corporate and filled with real music lovers who love to rock! With two sites, one for the northerns, based in Leeds and another for the southerners, based in Reading, both sites are accessible to all. Reading is so easy to get to from London, with trains and buses running frequently. Those going camping will not have to worry about dragging their tent far once they have stepped off the train platform, with the site being only a 15 minute walk away, or there are also shuttle buses that will take you there.
Reading/Leeds festival have really scored a lot of brownie points with the bands and artists that have been booked in to play. This year’s line-up is absolutely incredible. Who are the band that have been chosen to headline the opening day on the Friday? None other than one of our favourite bands of all time – the mighty Green Day. We saw them performing at the Emirates Stadium last month and they were outstanding. We were at Rock Werchter a few years ago, where they also headlined and we were surrounded by people who had heard of Green Day, but were not that familiar with their music, or so they thought. Their back-catalogue of hits continue to this very day, having been on the music circuit for many years, they have honed the art of playing to their own fans, as well as earning themselves new ones who see them playing live for the first time at a festival. We think they are the perfect festival booking. They band are always full of energy, mischief and fun, Green Day are the perfect headlining act for Friday night. Not only that, but just take a look at who else is playing on the day, our jaws are almost on the floor! Skrillex, Bastille, System of a Down, we’re talking about you!
On Saturday night, one of the greatest rappers/hip-hop artists of all time – Eminem will be headlining the show. What an absolute pleasure it will be to have someone of his stature, with his rhymes, licks and attitude to close Saturday night’s festival. As a musician and songwriter, Eminem’s songs appeal to a broad spectrum of fans and we expect he will gain even more fans with what is sure to be an incredible and powerful headlining slot. Alt-J, Foals, Chase and Status and British Sea Power are all acts that you should not miss out on seeing.
Now, Sunday – we don’t even know where to start with you! The Sunday line up is immense! Gracing the various stages will be Biffy Clyro – who closes the festival, Nine Inch Nails, Enter Shikari, Azealia Banks, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Editors and the absolutely incredible Lumineers. We have seen these live many times and believe us, you really do not want to miss out on any of them!
We’re also really looking forward to seeing who will be announced to play on the BBC Introducing stage. The acts who are to play have yet to be announced, but you can be sure that whoever have been picked are sure to go on to huge things, we can’t wait to check them out!
For those of you who want to continue the partying late into the night, we recommend that you get yourselves down to Button Down Disco. We have been to their various club nights in Camden and have thoroughly enjoyed the mix of songs and vibe that they create, fun guaranteed!
Also, check out the comedy line-up. Russell Kane, Rob Delaney and one of our new favourites – Luisa Omelian, who are acts that you HAVE to see. We saw Luisa’s ‘What Would Beyonce Do’ show at the Soho Theatre last month and we were in tears, for all the right reasons. Talented, beautiful and hilarious – Luisa will bring some roaring laughs to the festival audience.
Grab your denim shorts, paint your nails in neon colours, add a bit of face paint, grab your wellies on and let’s get ready folks! Reading – we can’t wait to see you!
