Top 5 performances from C2C: Country to Country 2016

It’s been just over a week since C2C: Country to Country 2016 kicked off at The O2 Arena in London and all week we’ve had the blues pretty bad since it ended.

The weekend was packed with so much fantastic Country music over 3 days, and the rest of the week in comparison felt a bit dull without the cream of the genre providing the entertainment. C2C 2016 marked debut UK performances from a variety of US stars including Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Old Dominion.

Now that I’ve had a bit of time to reflect on the incredible weekend, I’ve rounded up my Top 5 performances from the weekend. Keep reading to find out who made the cut…

5. High Valley

Canadian brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel aka High Valley made their UK live debut at C2C performing on the Yamaha Music Stage and at the Brooklyn Bowl. They also took part in the NY-LON Sessions over the course of the weekend. Harking back to traditional Country, the brothers wowed with their hit single Make You Mine and new material from their upcoming major label debut album. They mixed high energy with great harmonies and they won a legion of fans in the process.

4. Carrie Underwood

Of the three headliners from C2C 2016, Carrie Underwood was far and away the best. The reigning Queen of Country delivered a hits packed set that was performed with a lot of energy. Her vocals were outstanding throughout and the moment she was joined by Sam Hunt on stage was one of the best of the weekend. Underwood is a superb vocalist with an enviable catalogue of hits and I could listen to her sing all day (every day).

3. Maddie & Tae

The biggest surprise of C2C 2016 was without a doubt Maddie & Tae. I enjoyed their debut album Start Here but it didn’t bother my Top 10 lists after its release. Having now seen them live, I have a new appreciation of the duo and their songs. Maddie & Tae gave a storming performance at C2C packed with personality, flawless vocals and great songs. These two deserve to be absolutely huge!

2. Little Big Town

They should have headlined! Returning for their second year, Little Big Town should definitely have headlined one of the nights at this year’s festival. No band puts on a performance as polished as they do and their catalogue of songs is a great mix of styles and tempos. They wowed the crowd at C2C and if they return in the future, it should be as a headliner because they more than deserve that slot!

1. Chris Stapleton

I knew seeing Chris Stapleton was going to be special but I had no idea just how special. At times throughout the set I had tears in my eyes and a lump in throat. The raw honesty and passion of Stapleton’s performance was incredible and I’ve never in my life seen an audience react the way they did at The O2 while he performed. Stapleton is something really special and he needs to get back to the UK asap!
