Sam Bailey talks being dropped on ITV’s Lorraine

Sam Bailey appeared on ITV’s Lorraine this morning to talk about the news that she has been dropped from Simon Cowell’s Syco label.

Speaking to presenter Gaby Roslin, who is standing in for Lorraine Kelly, Sam revealed that she didn’t see parting ways as a negative. She explained to Gaby:

ā€œDo you know what, Iā€™ve said it all along, itā€™s like almost people think thatā€™s someoneā€™s died. Itā€™s nothing to be sad about, I am honestly grateful for being with Syco for the time that I was with them. And you know if you won a competition to win Ā£10,000 then eventually that Ā£10,000 is not going to be there anymore and itā€™s the same with this, so I kind of knew it was coming.ā€

Sam revealed that she knew her contract wouldn’t be renewed. ā€œIā€™m not silly, Iā€™ve been around the block a bit, I kind of knew it was coming.”

During the interview Sam opened up about her friendship with her X Factor mentor Sharon Osbourne, who is the godmother to her daughter Miley.

She said: ā€œSharon has had my back from day one and she sort of knows I am a strong person and Iā€™m a mum. She knows Iā€™m a grafter so sheā€™s kind of helping me in that direction but I want her as a friend. I donā€™t want her to be somebody there thatā€™s going to be doing all this stuff for me, I don’t want her to be that person, thatā€™s not why I asked her to be Mileyā€™s godmother or anything. I asked her to be Mileyā€™s godmother because we have a special bond so I donā€™t like to ask her for any favours or ask her ā€˜can you do this for me.ā€™ā€

Sam also revealed her ambitions to try her hand at acting in the future. ā€œIā€™d like to do some acting, no-one off The X Factor has ever done any sort of acting. Iā€™m quite a comical person. On this tour everyone has said, loads of people on twitter have said, ā€˜my goodness you are so funnyā€™. I donā€™t mean to be, thatā€™s just naturally me, I generally take the mickey out myself quite a lot. Iā€™ve been acting for years, I went to performing arts schools so to go into acting or do something on TV would be just the icing on the cake. I just want to keep fingers in each pie so that I can provide for my family.ā€

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays from from 8.30am to 9.25am.
