One Direction top iTunes chart in 63 countries

One Direction’s mash-up of Blondie’s One Way Or Another and The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks is set to be the biggest ever Comic Relief record.

The boyband released the track on Monday and its on course to be the best-selling Comic Relief single globally ever. The track has hit no.1 on iTunes in 63 countries across the world including the UK, USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Singapore, Egypt and New Zealand.

Kevin Cahill, chief executive of Comic Relief said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better band to record the official Red Nose Day single in our 25th year. It’s an absolute coup and the first time ever we have a massive global selling single for Comic Relief. Their genuine commitment to the work we fund is touching and I know that their contribution will raise a huge amount to make a real difference.”

Yesterday the band revealed that Prime Minister David Cameron makes a cameo appearance in the video for the track. The music video is expected to debut in two days time.
