Mariah Carey to mark 20th anniversary of Butterfly with vinyl release

Mariah Carey will mark the 20th anniversary of her classic album Butterfly by releasing a special collector’s edition 12″ vinyl picture disc in October.

The release will feature the album’s original cover photo and a special note from Carey to her fans. Released on 20th October, and available to pre-order now, Butterfly will be released by Legacy Recordings, which is part of Sony Music Entertainment.

“Butterfly is my favorite album,ā€ says Mariah. ā€œIt’s the most personal work I’ve ever done and will always be a defining moment in my career and in my life. I’m so happy to celebrate this anniversary with such a special release! Stay tuned for more surprises!”

Butterfly was originally released on 16th September 1997 by Columbia Records. It’s Carey’s sixth studio album and was certified 5x Platinum in the US alone.

The collection featured the hit singles Honey, My All, Butterfly, Breakdown and The Roof. Carey with with long-time collaborator Walter Afanasieff as well as Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs and Cory Rooney for the record.

A cover of Prince’s The Beautiful Ones, from Purple Rain, featured Dru Hill and was included among the track listing. Other guests included Mase & The Lox on Honey and Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone from Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony on Breakdown.
