Kylie and her collaborations

To finish our week long celebration of all things Kylie to mark the release of her new album ‘Kiss Me Once’ we’re looking at her most memorable collaborations.

Jason Donovan

Quite possibly one of the most famous duets of a generation is ‘Especially For You’. As Kylie and Jason’s on screen romance heated up on Neighbours and millions tuned in to see their soap wedding still unsure whether the two were dating in real life. Turns out they were and SAW ceased the opportunity for one of the most well-loved ballads of the 80s. Narrowly missing out on xmas no.1 to Sir Cliff Richard, the track climbed to no.1 the week after. Kylie has since sung the track with Kermit The Frog and will be performing it with a mystery guest on Sports Relief.

Nick Cave

The antithesis to Jason Donovan and the sugar sweet pop of ‘Especially For You’, Kylie shocked the world when she teamed up with brooding songwriter and singer Nick Cave for his ‘Murder Ballads’ album. The result is a beautifully dark tale about a young lady called Eliza Day who is bludgeoned to death by her lover, played by Cave in the song and video. It won Kylie new fans and respect when it was released in her indie phase.

Robbie Williams

In 2000 Kylie rediscovered pop and burst back on to the charts with album ‘Light Years’ which featured a duet with Robbie Williams in ‘Kids’. The song got the sexy treatment in the video and was only held off the top spot by U2. Ironically Kylie has gone on to duet live on tour with Bono on the track, as well as sister Dannii.

Dannii Minogue

Speaking of Dannii, fans have been screaming out for the two to collaborate for years. There were a couple of near misses. Firstly Kylie co-wrote ‘Love Traffic’ for Dannii’s debut album and then lent her backing vocals to ‘So In Love With Yourself’ on Dannii’s ‘Girl’ album. There was the aforementioned live duet of ‘Kids’ but the pair would probably duet for the BBC TV show ‘Beautiful People’ soundtrack. They go together with the BBC Orchestra to record their version of ABBA’s ‘Winner Takes It All’. We’d have preferred a brand new track thanks, but still have a soft spot for this duet. Could it get any camper than two Minogues singing ABBA?

Towa Tei

Kylie has twice collaborated with Japanese leftfield artist and producer Towa Tei (formerly of Dee-Lite). The first was the bonkers G.B.I. (or German Bold Italic) where Kylie plays a type face who can complement you well especially in pink. But it was her next outing with him on ‘Sometime Samurai’ that we fell in love with.

Enrique Iglesias

For new album, ‘Kiss Me Once’, Kylie has teamed up with Enrique Iglesias for the track ‘Beautiful’ which was written by Enrique. The pair didn’t actually meet to record the duet due to busy schedules but it’s rumoured to be the next single from both their new albums. It’s not our favourite of her duets but we think it’ll be a grower.

Kylie has also collaborated with Italian star Laura Pausini recently and of course has shook her tail feather live for many TV specials or awards ceremonies including Justin Timberlake and Ricky Martin.
