EF’s Underdogs Sea Bed, Dotan, Sam Hunt and more

Welcome to the new edition of EF’s Underdogs where we celebrate new and exciting music.

It’s been a while since we last shared gems of music but fear not this edition is packed with interesting and diverse acts and will appeal to avid music listeners tastes.

Keep reading to find out who we think you should be keeping an eye on over the coming months…

Sea Bed

Meet Sea Bed, Massey and Corbin, a band from sunny seaside city, Brighton. The duo first shared a stage with Tiny Dragons many moons ago and are now embarking on a new adventure together. Although the band still uses the instruments it grew up playing, it is now introducing modern ones influenced by their love of techno, UK bass and house music. Sea Bed are releasing their debut EP Rosso in just a few days hoping to match the success of other indie house acts such as The XX, Disclosure etc. We love how their music makes us move.

Take a listen to the band’s single Caves below:

Dotan

Dotan is a singer-songwriter from the Netherlands, who was born in Jerusalem then raised in Amsterdam. His single Home, which is due for release on 6th April has already earned the artist his first number 1 in Europe topping the charts in Belgium and The Netherlands. Dotan has been working hard mastering his craft over the past 2 years, playing in strangers’ living rooms and the result is his album, 7 Layers. What we love about Dotan is how upbeat and easy-going his music is.

Thomston

Next up is Thomston a 19-year-old singer and producer born in London and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. This city is surrounded by beaches, a rainforest and has a vibrant city centre. Trained classically at a young age the interest for pop music came much later for young Thomston. Now managed by Saiko (Lorde, Mt Eden) the young artist is set to release his new EP, Backbone this April and follows the international success of his 2014 Argonaut EP. What we love the sexy sound of his music.

Check out single Grey below:

Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt is an American country singer-songwriter and former college footballer. Inspired by his love of urban music, Hunt’s country is something quite different and very easy to get into. Most recently Hunt performed at C2C: Country To Country festival at London’s O2 Arena where we discovered this young chap. What we love about Sam Hunt’s music is its originality and fresh take on the country genre.

The Apache Relay

Hailing from Nashville, The Apache Relay is a band giving us good vibes. Their new album was recorded at LA’s Sound City studios and has elements linked to the likes of Fleet Foxes attracting critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Esquire and The Huffington Post. You might expect the band to do country music but this is guitar music and good at that. What we love about this band is the old school sound of their music.

Reykjavík Kids

Reykjavík Kids are Scott Munro and Paul Tissington and music was an inescapable calling for both of them. It wasn’t until 2010 when their separate paths collided outside a Tyneside rehearsal room where they had both been holding a run of fruitless auditions for band members all day.  Paul had now become a prolific writer of riff-driven guitar songs after years of noise-rock addiction, while Scott had grown obsessed with melody, songwriting and effects. The pair quickly bonded, firing demos back and forth, each building a new layer and aesthetic to the sound. Not long after that the pair start making music and now a single also named Reykjavik Kids is set for release on 18th April. What we love is the nostalgic memories we get from this band’s music.
