EF’s Underdogs: Husky Hoops top 10 tracks

EF’s Underdogs is where I explore new music and bring it to you. This time I met Husky Loops, a London-based art-rock trio, who recently got signed to Alcopop Records. I asked the band to tell me a bit about themselves and the trio came up with a clever way to spell the band’s name whilst also sharing music they love.

10. H The Hives – The Stomp

The Hives are basically what got me through high school… Their energy and attitude is just great. Pietro

9. U Unkle – Getting Ahed In The Lucrative Field Of Artist Management

UNKLE’s “Psyence Fiction” remains one of my favourite records to date. It’s full of incredible tracks, and constellated with ironic perks such as this one. Pietro

8. S Sonic Youth – Pink Steam

I have always been a massive fan of instrumental tracks in pop music. Songs like Pink Steam really convey a sense of journey and bring the listener somewhere else, without using a word. Pietro

7. K Fela Kuti – Colonian Mentality

Fela Kuti changed my life. The polyrhythmic elements, the warmth and the textures… everything made me think in a different way. Everyone should go through his music and study him, it’s essential. Danio

6. Y Adrian Younge – Sirens

The production man…this just sounds sick. Heavy. No other words needed. Danio

5. L Kendrick Lamar – Sing About Me /I’m Dying Of Thirst

In my opinion Kendrick is the freshest artist nowadays. Everything he does inspires me so much, these lyrics are beautiful and he sings with such groove and depth. Brilliant. Lyrically and musically. Danio

4. O One Day As A Lion – One Day As A Lion

Massive beats, Zach De La Rocha and his organ that sounds like 10 distorted bass guitars played at once. Huge. Tommaso

3. O Mike Oldfield – Ommadawn

Incredibly arranged piece of music. The choirs and percussions give me quite a spectral vibe and the piece slightly reminds of what italian group Goblin went on to do while scoring soundtracks for legendary horror films. Tommaso

2. P Pink Floyd – Cymbaline

I’ve ignored this tune for a while, but recently it got stuck in my head. I love the melody and the fact that it’s clearly a great pop song hidden in a psychedelic soundtrack for a psychedelic film. Tommaso

1. S Stadio – Lunedì Cinema

You know that moment when you’re drunk at a party and they put you’re tune on and you raise your hands to the sky and scream “LORD” ? This is ours.
